Intro
If you’re like me and you have a bunch of messy cables running across your desk, this single charger can replace them all. This is the Joy Room Podex 140 watt GAN charger, which allows you to charge up to five devices at once with up to 140 watts total output. On top of that, it has two built-in USB type-C retractable cables that can be pulled out to an impressive 80 cm or 31 in and retracted back in for a flush fit. There’s also a 1.54 in dynamic LCD screen with touch controls. And you can actually rotate the charging base and the screen as well in its magnetic base. But how well does it actually work? Can you really charge up to five devices? Does it overheat? Well, let’s take a closer look. And a big thanks to Joy Room for sending this out for review. In

Design
GAN charger comes in at around 464 gram. So, it does have noticeable heft in the hand. It actually looks really premium and it feels really premium as well. There’s no type of creaking or flexing anywhere on the body. On the front, we have a 1.54 in dynamic LCD display along with a touch area in this ring here. There’s also two USB typeA ports capable of 30 watts of charging and a USB type-C port capable of 140 watts. There’s two USB type-C ports on the top capable of providing up to 100 watts. And the really cool thing about these is that you can actually pull them out up to 80 cm or about 2.6 ft to charge your devices that aren’t close to this. And then when you’re done, you can easily just retract them back and they sit nice and flush on the top.
There’s a power port on the back and on the side here, the bottom and the other side. We actually have magnets built into the body so that you can attach this to the silicone pad. The anti-slip silicone pad has a magnet on the top here. And then we also have these kind of raised little areas going around here to just keep the charger kind of planted in here. And then on the back, there is a pre-applied protective peel. Once you remove that, you do have access to this sticky pad.

Screen Controls
screen is easy. So, if it goes to sleep, you can just do a single tap to wake it up and you’re going to see an emoji. Then it’s going to jump into one of the default modes like showing the total wattage right here or you can see the total draw for all of your devices. If I tap that again, I’ll go back to these kind of animated emojis. Now, if you double tap, you can cycle through various ones. And after 30 minutes of inactivity, this will just automatically go to sleep. If you decide to rotate the base on the stand and you need the display rotated as well, you could just triple tap on the touch control area and you could cycle the rotation of the
Charging
display. When it comes to charging, the Podix charger supports power delivery 3.1 PPS or programmable power supply and AFC or adaptive fast charge. So, this will fast charge pretty much any modern device without any issue. If you’re going to be charging five devices at once using all of the ports, well, they’re all going to share that 140 watts among them. Now, there is one USBC port here, and this can be used for up to 140 watts dedicated if you have a very powerful device like a gaming laptop. I’ll leave an overlay on screen to show you a breakdown of the power output with the different port combinations, but I was able to charge all of my devices at once without any issue, and the charger never overheated once. When I was charging my gaming laptop, the power output was over 100 watts.
And after about 30 minutes of charging, the temperature on this was around 59 C or about 138° F. And even at that temperature, it never overheated or shut down. So, you’ll have no issues charging basically any device thanks to all the charging standards on here. Retractable Cables
by device as well. When it comes to using the built-in retractable USBC cable, so as long as you have it in the anti-slip mat, which has a magnetic button to keep the base planted, when you’re pulling the cable out, just keep it kind of, you know, perpendicular to your desk. So, you’re pulling out straight towards you. Don’t pull it out kind of like aggressively like this. But you could see it still stays nice and planted even if I do that. The only thing you have to note is that once you get to the like upper end or the limit of the cable, it will pop out of the base. So just be mindful of that.
Changes?
Overall, this is a wellthoughtout charger and it’s been a great addition to my desk. There’s only one change I would have liked to see because right now there is one magnet at the bottom here and one corresponding magnet on the anti-slip mat. But it would have been great if they had, you know, another magnet on the right and left side to keep it even more planted so that you could pull the USB type-C cable out even more aggressively if you wanted. But it’s not a dealbreaker by any means. So
