If you’re looking to upgrade your current pair of earbuds and you want standout sound, you have to check out the Sound Pete H3 earbuds. They have two balance armature drivers, a 12mm dynamic driver with Snapdragon sound aptx lossless support and LDAC high-res wireless audio. There’s up to 7 hours of battery life and 37 hours if you include the charging case along with fast charging support. There’s adaptive ANC up to 55 dB, multi-point support so you can connect two devices and a 60 millisecond low latency gaming mode. They also have an IPX5 rating and Pete’s audio support so you can fine-tune these even further. But how good do they sound? And if you have the Sound Pets Air5 Pro, is it worth upgrading to the Sound Pets H3? Well, let’s take a closer look.

And a big thanks to Sound Piece for sending these up for review.

In the box, we have the charging case, the H3 earbuds, stickers, registration card, user guide, USB type A to type-C cable, and additional ear tips. The

charging/carrying case comes in at around 41 g with it empty. And if you have the H3s in there, then it’s about 53 g. Now, we have this type of tinted or smoked plastic covering here. If you lift that up, you have access to the H3s. You can see very easy to just grab these and then just pop them back in. We also have the here the different slogan here and kind of a leatherrett type of finish right here that’s nice and textured. There’s also an LED indicator light to show you that you know it’s being charged. USB type-C port at the bottom and a reset button on the very rear. The magnetic hold is very strong as well. I can dangle these upside down, shake them, they’re not going anywhere and there’s a 400 mAh battery in the case.

The design of the H3 is some of the nicest that I’ve seen from Sound Pete so far. So, we have the sound petats S in here. And then we have this type of glossy plastic finish at the top. And if I do a side view, you could see it’s kind of slightly bulbous around it. It just looks really nice. Plays nice with the light as well. And then if we take a look at the underside here, you could see it’s basically this transparent type of housing basically all the way through at the bottom, but not really on the side. So, there’s really not much room for showing, you know, imperfections or anything like that. And thankfully, there’s really nothing uh that’s a bit of an isore on here. Everything just looks really nice, really premium on the H3s.

The H3s are noticeably more sizable than the Air5 Pros, which I have here. You can see we have this kind of long stem design, which is not present on the H3, but at the same time, it’s just a more chunkier outer body here. Once this is inserted into the ear canal, this is what the speaker grill looks like. And we have two balanced armatures and a dynamic driver powering the H3. We have a UV matte coating. And even though it’s glossy, it’s not actually super slippery. It doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall out of my hand. Now, we also have various microphone ports around here along with an IPX5 rating. There’s also a 35 mAh battery in each of

the earbuds. Here’s a quick look at the specs. Feel free to pause and review or jump ahead to the next section. I’m

going to pair the Sound Piece H3 with my phone. So, I’ll open the case up. Press the pairing button at the back till I see the flashing LED light right there. Hit scan and I can see it. Sound beach 83. Hit pair and I can see it’s paired at the top. I’ll repeat the same process on my ZFold 7 because this does support multipoint.

Let’s do a quick multipoint demo. So, I’ll play music on my first phone. You can hear it coming through. pause that. Play music on my second phone and within a matter of seconds, it’s easy to switch audio sources from two

devices. If you want the best possible sound out of the H3, you’ll need to enable LDAC in the Pete’s audio app. Additionally, you’ll have to go into your Bluetooth settings on Android, tap into the gear icon, and enable LDAC there as well. Once you have LDAC enabled in both of these places, you’re going to get the best possible sound. In

the Pizza Audio app, we can see the battery life for the right and left earbud along with the charging case. You can also switch the modes from transparency mode, you have voice enhancement, standard transparency. You can put it to normal mode or noise cancellation. And note that you do have various types of noise cancellation as well. You can also enable the double device connection feature. So, you can have multi-point support to connect two devices. You can disable all touch controls, enable the 60 millisecond low latency gaming mode, and you can enable the LDAC mode. Under custom key, this is where you can go to remap everything. So, you have controls for a single tap, double tap, triple tap, and a long press. And here are the various options you have.

You could set it to undefined or you can set it for voice assistance, noise cancellation, game mode, etc. Under the middle tab, this is where we have the equalizers. So we have the default uh samp classic bass boost bass reduce treble electronic pop rock classical folk book whisper hi-fi and ACG and of course you can go ahead and set your own custom EQs as well and you can tap into to modify that as well. On the top right corner this is where we can go to see if there’s any firmware upgrades. And you can see I’m on the latest version already. You can also go ahead and do a fit test which I’ve done and I have great fitment on here. And we also have the option to find the earbuds. And if you tap on that, it’s going to actually play music right from the earbuds.

You can also change the languages from English, simplified Chinese, German, and Japanese. And you can change the prompt, tone, volume. The touch controls are

easy to use and to remap in the pizza audio app, but I’ve set mine so that a single tap on the right earbud will increase the volume and a single tap on the left will decrease the volume. If I long press on the right earbud, it’s going to go ahead and forward to the next track. I’ll just wait for it to load up right there. And that’s going to be the next song playing. And then if I do a long press on the left earbud, it’s going to go back to the previous track. Now, note that it is in transparency mode right now. So, if I do a triple tap on the right earbud, it’s going to move it out of transparency mode to normal mode. And I can do a triple tap again and that’s going to put me into noise cancellation mode.

I’ve also set it so that a double tap on either earbud will pause music or resume music playback. And I’ve set the triple tap on the left earbud to open up my voice assistant. Now, you can also set it to do game mode

as well. In terms of sound, the H3 has a hybrid three driver system. So, we have a 12mm driver that handles the bass and midbase. And there’s also two balance armature drivers to handle mid highs and highs. And this type of setup generally results in better frequency separation and less distortion when tuned properly. I mostly stuck to the rock equalizer in the Pete’s audio app, but I also cycled through the sound piece classic EQ, the electronic EQ, and the folk EQ depending on the type of music I was listening to. The bass delivery was pretty impressive with the Sound Piece classic EQ, but if you’re more of a bass head, you’re going to want to use the bass boost equalizer or the electronic equalizer to get even deeper sounding bass.

The bass hits pretty nicely, and there’s actually a good amount of bass decay that bass lowers will appreciate, and at the same time, it doesn’t linger around too long where it muddies into other frequencies. But with the preset EQs, I found it was missing a little bit of that satisfying bass thump and punch, which I had to further EQ by setting a custom EQ. Mids are tuned nicely on the H3, delivering great clarity and detail when it came to vocals and instrumentals, and with good separation without anything sounding recessed. And even with the forward tuning of the mids, nothing sounded harsh or sibilent to my ears, at least not with the equalizers I was using.

highs were equally as detailed and clean in delivery with a good amount of separation and enough sparkle when it came to instrumentals, especially when I used the folk equalizer. Now, if you

have the Sound Petats Air5 Pro, should you upgrade to the Sound Pets H3? And let me say, I really love the Sound Pets Air 5 Pro. They’re some of the best sound that you can get, especially for the price. And this costs half as much as the H3. While I love the bass delivery on the Sound Feds Air5 Pro, when I compare them to the H3, the bass delivery is just not as deep. And that carries over to the mids and highs as well, it is still a very good pair of earbuds. It’s just a bit slightly less detailed when compared to the H3. And the key word here is when compared to the H3 because before I had the H3, I was perfectly happy with the sound coming out of the Air 5 Pros. And I could pick up either one of these earbuds on the go and I would be perfectly happy with the sound coming out of them.

So, I’d say if you love the sound coming out of your Air 5 Pros and it doesn’t feel like it’s lacking in any area, you don’t need to get the H3s. The other thing is that the Air5 Pros will feel more comfortable in the air and it’ll just be better fitment for most people. So, it has that going for it as well. But, if you found yourself wanting a little bit more bass and details in the mids and highs, the H3s will

definitely deliver. Here’s an example of what microphone audio sounds like from the Sound Pizza H. I’m indoors in a very quiet room with little to no ambient noise. Here’s an example of what microphone audio sounds like from the Sound Fat H3. I’m outside. There’s some ambient noise, a little bit of wind, you know, car noise, traffic, and things like that. This is how well the

ANC

microphones are handling it. The ANC performance is pretty decent on here. So, anytime I’m outdoors and I put these on, it immediately just lowers or reduces a lot of the ambient background noise. Now, this is going to farewell with lower frequency noises. Of course, higher frequencies are going to be problematic. So, it’s definitely good ANC, but not the best that I’ve heard. You can also cycle through the various A and C modes, and the transparency mode actually works really decent, so you can easily carry on a conversation with

anyone around you. Using the low latency gaming mode in the Pizza Audio app, I had no problems dominating in Call of Duty Mobile. In

Comfort

terms of comfort, initially I was a bit worried when I saw the size of the H3s, but after wearing them, the fitment is so good on here. It actually feels like it was custom molded for my ears. There’s no type of like wiggling or movement at all. Even if I’m listening to music while brushing my teeth, where a lot of other earbuds would tend to get loose over time, these are just, you know, rock solid in there. Now, I definitely feel that they’re in my ear, but it doesn’t feel like they’re kind of stretching it out. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable, but if you have, you know, smaller ears, I can definitely see these being a little bit too large for

Battery Life

you. The battery life is rated for up to 7 hours on these if you’re listening at around say 60% volume and you’re using the AAC or SBC codecs. Now, if you’re going to be using ANC and LDAC, and depending on the volume level you’re listening at, you’re probably going to get between 4 to 6 hours realistically. And when the battery does go down, a quick 10-minute fast charge is going to get you 2 hours of play time. And you can have up to 37 hours if you include the charging case. Even though the H3s

have been solid so far, they are missing in ear or wearing detection. So, if that’s important to you, just something

to be mindful of. So, if you’re looking for high quality sound with great tuning, the Sound Piece H3 will definitely deliver. That’s thanks to their dual balance armature drivers and the 12mm dynamic driver paired with Snapdragon sound aptx lossless support and LDAC high-res wireless audio. The ANC performance and battery life is pretty good. You have fast charging support and you have multipoint support so you can connect two devices at once, which makes it a solid option for most. So, if you’re interested in picking up the Sound Pets H3 earbuds, I’m going to leave links down below for you to get your very own.
