hey guys it’s adrian and today i’m reviewing the ma ono or the mauno au 100r lav mic right now the audio you’re hearing is coming from my on camera microphone which is a cinco m3 mic and i did a video on that uh previously and i’m really happy with the audio from that but you know whenever i’m standing far away from the camera or sitting far away then it’s not going to pick up the audio as well so i’ve been using the rode wireless go system and you can see here it does have a built-in mic and it does have a port to plug in a lot of mic and right now what i’m doing is i’m just clipping it on my shirt and it’s kind of like a heavy unit it doesn’t look that great so i was thinking you know let me try the lav mic and see if i could just do away with the system or maybe use use it in tandem with this system so i’m just going to do some sound tests of the aono mauno au100r and see how well it does so let’s get

started okay so in the package you get the um the lav mic unit itself so it’s an all metal construction and there is a clip back here to attach it to your belt the microphone head unit looks like that and this is um an omnidirectional mic so it’s going to pick up sound from wherever you place it it doesn’t have to be directly in front of your mouth most of the times it’s going to be down here anyways and you can see here there’s two modes on here so there’s a smartphone mode and the camera mode so let’s see if i can focus but when you turn it on you can see the led light flashes there for a second and if it’s red then it has under 20 battery if it’s green it’s over 20 battery and when it’s white it means it’s fully charged i don’t believe it stays on um which is one downside i would have preferred if the led light stayed on to let you know that it was on and recording but i mean as long as you put it on that should be fine it’s 20 feet long or six meters long for the cable which is like which is super long so i don’t think you’re gonna have much problems with that if you need longer then you probably should be using something wireless anyway now it comes with two foam um windscreen inserts i guess if you’re going to be outdoors you also have this clip here that goes over the head of the mic like that i’ll put that on later it also comes with this quarter inch adapter here and you also have a charging cable um oh let me show you that so to charge it you just plug it in at the bottom right there can you see that yeah there you go so now that we’ve gone through everything i’m just gonna set everything up and then the next uh audio here is gonna be from the microphone okay guys i’m back so

i now have the microphone hooked up and the audio you’re hearing is from the mic now it’s not from the on camera mic so i’m just gonna play a like 10 second audio clip and we’re just going to see how well that sounds then the next test i’m going to do is i’m just going to use the camera’s built-in microphone and then we’re going to do a [Music] comparison okay so now i’m just gonna turn off the video and we’re gonna have a clip of the camera’s built-in mic okay so for this next test i’m going to be playing the same audio using the camera’s built-in microphone so most people buying a mic like this they’re looking to enhance the audio coming from their phone or their camera from using the built-in so we’re just gonna play the same clip and i’m gonna put the phone close to the camera just because the phone was close to the lav mic just to make it you know somewhat fair so i’m just gonna stop the video here and i’m just gonna review the audio okay i’m taking just cell phone video with my camera so it’s not going to be the best this is just a test using the cell phones built-in mic with compared to the lav mic so i’m just going to read a sentence from the manual here for reference so the 3.5 millimeter trrs plug is compatible with mobile phone dslr camera computer and digital recorder the built-in lithium polymer battery is available for over 90 hours work done

now have the lav mic plugged into the cell phone so i’m just going to read the same passage again the 3.5 millimeter trrs plug can be compatible with mobile phone dslr camera computer and digital recorder the built-in lithium polymer battery is available for over 90 hours work time okay so i’m back after reviewing the

cell phone audio and i could tell there was a big difference between using the cell phones built-in mic and using the lav mic you know the sound sounded more powerful it was clearer um had like a little bit more bass so i think it’s a much better improvement than using your cell phone’s built-in mic which i think is not a surprise for anyone so with the camera test though um the camera audio test it was a bit more difficult to tell because i am sitting you know further away from the camera whereas the lav mic was right under my mouth but in a real world example that’s how it’s going to be you know you’re not going to have the camera right up to someone to your face or the subject’s face anyway so there’s a definite improvement using the lav mic over using something built in if you’re going to be using an on camera microphone and you’re comparing it i don’t think the difference is as much but you know if you’re going to be stepping far away from the camera um the six feet sorry 20 feet that comes with this or six it’s meters going to keep your audio great while being further back so summing up i can definitely recommend this live mic if you’re currently using built-in microphones for your camera or your cell phone this is going to be a big step up from that the other thing is you know you can’t always have the camera or your cell phone really close to your face or subject so a lav mic lets you have that you know separation while maintaining um good audio and i think for the price you get a pretty good unit because it’s all metal construction it doesn’t feel cheap the cable is super long at 20 feet or um six meters and i do like that it has a rechargeable battery that way you’re not going to be spending extra on batteries because um that’s up you know over time so i can highly recommend this lav mic and if this video is helpful you know please consider liking subscribing it helps me to get more tech to review for you guys thanks and see you in the next video
