Intro
hey guys it’s Adrian and today I’m taking a look at this Halo 75 mechanical keyboard from new 5. now this keyboard features their night Breeze linear switches back clip and side lift LEDs and it’s all housed in a beautiful and sturdy frame Now new 5 did send this up to me for an uninfluenced review but I’m going to review it and let you know my true thoughts on it and you can decide if it is worth it for you and spoiler alert it probably is new 5 did also send me an optional clear wrist rest for the keyboard and some shine through keycaps
Package Contents
I don’t normally do this but I just wanted to highlight the packaging and presentation so far has been very impressive and you can see here on this protective plastic cover it actually shows you how to pronounce a company name which is newfy in the box we have the Halo 75 mechanical keyboard which just looks really nice we also have 17 additional keycaps if you just want to add a bit more color on the keyboard we also have a USB type c type a cable that’s about 1.5 meters or 5 feet you also have a keycap and switch puller now it also comes with seven additional switches just for you to try them out and these are different you also have a manual here with just quick start questions kind of like a troubleshooting guide we also have a quick start guide here and some stickers now one thing I wanted to mention about the quick start guide is this is actually printed on you know really nice Paper Stock and you can see you have kind of quick commands here and the flip side of it doubles as a poster if you want to hang that up now I was also sent these optional shine through keycaps so you can see these ones are dark and you can go ahead and switch that up if you prefer kind of a darker color profile now I was also send this optional wrist rest and I have to say this thing has a little bit I have to like it’s really high quality it just feels premium everything has just felt premium so far the Halo 75 keyboard
Design
comes in at roughly 1212 grams which works out to about 2.6 pounds now the optional wrist rest comes in at around 451 grams which is just about a pound it’s difficult for me to demonstrate on camera just how beautiful this keyboard feels and just how premium and you know well put together it feels and you know it really matches with the level of presentation that goes into this but let me get into some of the details here so you can see that this is a two-tone color design now the top of the keyboard or the frame here is aluminum and the bottom of the case is ABS plastic now you can see the weight comes it just looks really tasteful so you know it’s not overdone with the colors we have a couple of you know color accents to really make the keyboard pop but you can go ahead and change that with those extra keycaps that it does come with or you could just buy um some optional ones to get it give it a dark look if you want something like that the new file logo is nicely debossed in the top right corner the keycaps are Nephi’s own which is their kop style and you can see that they have these nice really rounded corners and a flat design so this is what it looks like kind of like that aside profile looking at the rear of the keyboard so we have this wireless USB adapter here which is nicely housed and I’m really glad that they added a bit of color there they could have just kept that quite but you can see there’s a lot of attention to detail on this keyboard now we also have a switch here and we can switch it up to either windows so you can see the W there or M for Mac so it does support both now we also have a switch here to turn the keyboard off put it into wired mode or Wireless mode mode and obviously we have the USB type-c connector here for wire mode and to charge your keyboard on the bottom of the keyboard so we have the new file over there and you can see that attention to detail so we do have this protective clear plastic stripper just to remove and then we also have feet here with two levels of adjustment so first level second level and of course we have these type of rubber grips to keep the keyboard nice and planted and like I said coming in at 2.6 pounds this just feels really sturdy really heavy and I know this is not going anywhere the back of the keyboard has this smooth finish at the top and then at the bottom half you have this grid texture right there now on the side of the keyboard it’s that same type of rip texture also carries around now I’m a really big fan of everything going on I appreciate the level of detail pretty much anywhere you look on this keyboard I’m also a big fan of the font style that they chose so you can see you know it’s not a very sharp type of font and I think it meshes really well with the kind of curved keycaps that they have going on now these are not shine through like you can see but you do have the option to buy shine through keycaps um the dark ones that I showed earlier so we also have two zones of lighting so you can see that we have these backlit LEDs and we also have LEDs that run along the entire side where we have a separation from that smooth frame to the ABS plastic with that rip frame having this Halo light is also a really nice addition to this keyboard and depending on the color change it lets you know if you have caps lock on you know power levels and if you’re in Windows mode Mac mode and so on design wise they’ve really knocked this out of Park this is the most impressive and beautiful looking keyboard also the most premium keyboard that I’ve held in my hands and I’m really happy with the way they’ve attacked color on her you know we have a few pops of color but it’s not overdone it’s nothing crazy and then we have these nice little accent colors at the top there on the F Keys now again you can switch these to a darker color profile with the shine through keycaps if you like but as is this just looks really beautiful to me I’m not going to be taking my keyboard apart but it does have bottom silicone PCB silicone and spacebar silicone for maximum noise reduction let me know what you guys think about the design in the comments you know are you a fan of this type of you know two-tone look with the two different designs or do you prefer something a bit more seamless the optional wrist rest also continues that same premium type of fuel so you can see it’s this type of frosted plastic material here and you do have the new file logo at the bottom there now if I flip it over there are two screws that help secure everything and you do have these you know rubber feet to prevent skidding once you put the restaurants down those screws are not visible at all it’s just a really nice and clean look it may be a bit hard to make out but you could see that the new file logo is also debossed in the top right corner there
Specifications
the Halo 75 keyboard is a 75 layout with 83 Keys which are double shot PBT it uses the night Breeze linear switches which are hot swappable it has n key rollover support there’s backlit and side lid LEDs there’s also 10 backlit modes four side lift modes and four halo-like mode the keycaps are new five’s own kop style and they feature rounded corners and a flat design the keyboard can be connected in wired mode wirelessly or with Bluetooth and it does support Bluetooth 5.0 there’s a 4 000 milliamp hour battery and it supports Windows Mac and Android here’s an idea
Sound Profile
of the sound profile when it comes to sound Newfound refers to the spacebar as their ghost bar and the reason for that is because this is a custom designed spacebar which has a built-in dampening system so the spacebar is divided into different chambers to help isolate sound now they have included a standard space bar if you’re not happy with the sound profile of this and you want something a bit more traditional but here’s what it sounds like when I remove the ghost bar you can see those different chambers that they’ve mentioned for noise isolation now if I angle it to the side you can see that there’s this kind of frosted or matte type of plastic there now taking a look at the keyboard where the space bar would normally sit you could see that we do have a silicone strip here which is supposed to help with noise isolation as I mentioned if you’re not happy or if you’re not used to the sound profile of the ghost bar the additional keycap that comes with the system if I flip that to the underside you can see this is the more traditional design so I’m just going to demo how that sounds so let me know what you guys think sounds better I do prefer the sound of the ghost bar it’s a little less sharp if you decide to purchase the optional shine through keycap set the space bar that comes with that is a traditional design it is not the same design as on the ghost bar the typing experience has
Typing Experience
been wonderful so far you know I’m a big fan of this keycap profile and it’s really to type and adapt to there’s also no rattle that I could see on this keyboard unlike some other keywords that I’ve used especially on the spacebar [Music] the keyboard sounds really pleasant when you’re typing in this should easily fit in a home or office environment while it’s really easy to type on the keyboard without the use of a wrist rest having that option you know that matches and pairs so nicely with the keyboard really does help Elevate the typing experience if you’re going to be typing for long periods at a time
Lighting
the keyboard features North facing LEDs like with most mechanical keyboards all the lighting options can be controlled with the function key so if you hold function and down you can lower the brightness or you can increase the brightness to the maximum you can also change the effect settings by hitting left and then you can also change the effect Colors by hitting right now you can also change the speed so you can lower the speed like that or increase the speed as well you also have keyboard commands to modify the Halo light settings and these side Lights I’ve removed the keycaps that came with the keyboard I’m going to put the optional shine through keycaps just so you can see what those look like you can see that the backlit LED lights are coming nicely through those shine through keycaps when you compare them to the neighboring Keys the LED looks really nice so you can see those side lip LEDs paired with the back Loop LEDs they really match and pair nicely one
Dealbreaker?
thing that I want to point out is on the new 5 side I did see that they have a software called new fi console however it was not supported for this keyboard so if you know changing the lighting setting macros and remapping keys is something that’s important to you it’s not supported currently by the way if
Useful Feature
you hate keywords that auto sleep after a certain amount of time you can easily disable that on this keyboard by hitting function X and C all right so can I
