There’s a 2500 millia battery providing over 9 hours of battery life. inputs include micro SD card slot, ox input, USB audio streaming, and of course, Bluetooth functionality. Now, these get loud and they sound really good, but there’s a couple things missing that may impact your use. So, let’s take a closer look at the Edifier MP230 Bluetooth speakers. And a big thanks Edifier for sending

these out for review. In the box, we have the Edifier MP230 speaker along with a 3.5 millimeter to 3.5 millimeter ox cable, USB type-C to type A cable,

and manual. In terms of design, the Edifier MP230 is a beautiful looking portable speaker. Now, I have it in this type of white or ivory color, but it does also come in other colors as well, and it actually feels good in the hand. Really well built, coming in at around 1.7 lb or about 770 g. It’s housed in a wooden enclosure and then we have this mesh type of grill on the front and at the back which has a nice textured pattern when you run your fingers around it. And then we also have the Edifier logo in the top left corner here and you can see that plays really nice with the light and it is debossed and reflective. There’s also a leatherrett type of finish going around the body of the speaker. Then we have physical buttons at the bottom here.
So, we do have the Edifier logo and then there’s a LED status light to show various effects like if you’re in Bluetooth mode, streaming mode, etc. We also have the power button and you can see I can actually depress this button down. Same as for the Bluetooth button, play, pause, volume up and volume down, which also doubles to forward and advance or uh go back to previous tracks. At the very bottom, we have rubber feet to just keep this nice and planted so it doesn’t shift around much. Looking at the sides, nothing there. And then on the very rear, we also have a micro SD card slot so you can load your music for just local playing. There’s the ox port to use the supplied 3.5 mm ox cable.
And then we have a type-C port just to charge this up along with an LED indicator light to let you know battery status. And while we can’t see it because of the front mesh, there’s two 48 mm drivers housed behind here. So yeah, overall really nice looking portable speaker with this retro type of

design look. Here’s a quick look at the specs. Feel free to pause or jump ahead to the next section. I’ll go ahead and
Bluetooth Pairing
pair the Edifier MP30. So the first thing I’ll do is press and hold the power button to boot it up. So it has a really nice startup tone. So next I’ll just go in, long press on my Bluetooth section here, and then I’ll just go to the bottom and wait for it to show up. Now I do see a flashing blue LED light letting me know that it is in pairing mode. Tap MP230 and I’ll wait to hit pair. And there we go. It’s paired that
Audio Inputs
easily. There’s a ton of input options. So, of course, you could use Bluetooth connection. You can also insert a micro SD card. I inserted 128 GB. No problem recognizing it. You could use USB audio streaming connected to your laptop or desktop. And of course, you have the 3.5 mm ox cable as well. Let’s take a look
Button Controls
at the button controls. So the play pause will pause music and then resume music playback. I could also press the volume up button multiple times or down. And then if I just go ahead and long press on volume up, it’s going to go to the next track. And then long pressing on volume down is going to go back to the previous track. So everything works as expected. Now if you press and hold the Bluetooth button, that’s going to cut uh Bluetooth and then put it back into Bluetooth pairing mode. If you single press on the power button, it switches between the various inputs. So, Bluetooth, micro SD card slot, USB audio streaming, and the aux connection. And long pressing will turn the speaker off.
Sound
[Music] All right, let’s talk sound. So, these are using two 48 mm drivers, and they output a total of 20 watts of sound power using a class D amplifier. Now, there’s no Edifier app support, so there’s no way to switch between different type of presets or set your own custom preset. So, straight off, these get very loud. This is loud enough to fill out a small to mediumsiz room. I’m in a basement and it does a fantastic job just filling this entire room out. Now, most of the time I listen, I only needed to be at around say 40 to 60%, and that was plenty loud for me. I did also crank these to max volume to see if there was any noticeable type of distortion or audio dropouts, and there was zero issues.
So, the sound is tuned more on the bass heavy side, I would say, because even though we have the rubber feet at the bottom to help kind of minimize vibrations, I still had vibrations on my desk when I was using these. So, yeah, these are definitely more for bass heavy lovers. On bass heavy songs, you actually get to feel decent bass thump on here and the bass decay is pretty nice as well. For the most part, vocals came through fairly well in vocal prominence songs, but I did notice in certain songs, I would have liked it tuned a little bit better so that I would just hear a little bit more crispness or clarity. Now, that’s based on me just reviewing Edifar’s M60 desktop speakers, which are super powerful speakers. You know, pretty much double the price of these and maybe a little bit more.
So, that’s what kind of my reference point is. But, if I didn’t have those and I just listen to these just straight out, I would be perfectly fine with it. So yeah, I’d say the sound is tuned pretty well for these and it’s going to satisfy most people, especially if you’re more on the bass heavy side of things and you want kind of a little mini party speaker, this will definitely fit the bill. Now, if you’re looking for something with a little bit more, you know, refinement or you have more fine control through an app, then definitely check out the Edifier M60 and I’ll link that up above and down below as well.
Battery Life
There’s a 2500 mAh battery in here. Now, it’s rated for up to 9 hours of battery life, but in my testing, I would easily get 10 to 11 hours. Now, it’s going to come down to how loud you listen to these at, of course. And if you also listen to them in the USB streaming mode where you have these connected to your desktop or laptop, it’s going to charge at the same time, so it’s zero issues.
Dealbreakers?
At the time of this review, these are coming in at around 80 US and I think that’s a pretty good price. You know, this looks really beautiful. It feels well built. The tactile buttons are a nice touch and the sound is really good. Now, there are a couple things that were cut and this is what I mentioned, you know, may impact your use. So, one is that there’s no multipoint on here. You can only connect it to one device at a time. You The other thing is that you can’t actually take calls on this. There’s no built-in microphone. So, you will have to, you know, switch back over to your phone. And there’s also no Edifier app support.
Now, maybe you really don’t care because there’s a lot of people who just want to buy a speaker, turn it on, and it just plays without fiddling with an app, and this
Recommended!
does that. So, the Edifier MP230 Bluetooth speakers are definitely one of the better sounding portable speakers that I’ve heard in a while. The sound is great coming out of these, you know, really nicely tuned, especially if you like a lot of bass heavy music. And the sound output on there is loud enough to fill a small to mediumsiz room. Zero issues. You can actually feel the bass thump in certain songs. And overall, it’s nicely tuned for most music genres. I’m also happy to see physical tactile buttons for controls instead of kind of, you know, minimal buttons that do multi-function actions. Battery life is fantastic and of course it looks just beautiful sitting on any desk or table.
So if you’re interested in picking up the Edifier MP230 Bluetooth speaker, I’m going to leave links down below for you to check it out or to learn more. Now, if you’re looking for speakers with a little bit more fine control, you can switch between equalizers and you can create your own custom equalizer and your budget permits, check out my review of the M60.
