With the recent heatwaves and impure air that blanketed my city with active wildfires from surrounding areas, opening the windows for fresh air wasn’t the best option. However, even though I did my best to limit going outside and leaving windows and doors closed, it couldn’t always be helped, so I needed a larger air purifier than my current model. Luckily, VOCOlinc reached out to me about their PureFlow Smart Air Purifier, so let’s see how it fared. You can check their full range of products on Vocolinc’s Official website.

Package Contents

In the package, you get the VOCOlinc PureFlow air purifier unit, which includes two separate 3-stage HEPA filters.

I’m really liking the clean white design on the Vocolinc. There’s some gray at the top of the unit to add to the design, and the very top of the unit has a ripple like pattern that looks neat.

Side perforations allow continuous air flow, so ensure that you do not place it right up against a wall to obstruct air flow.

The vertical design makes it easy to place anywhere without occupying too much space. Speaking of, the dimensions come in around 22.24″ H x 11.42″ W x 11.42″ D.

The top of the unit has touch button controls that allow you to do everything you can do in the app.

Green LED indicator lights let you know which mode you are accessing, but I’ve mostly used it on Auto mode with great results.

A large 5.1″ LCD display, shows the following:

  • Air quality score
  • Fan speed
  • HEPA filter life
  • Humidity level
  • Particulate matter
  • Connection status

There’s also a green LED light bar which changes to show changes in air quality at a glance.

Filter Compartment

To get access to the HEPA filters, the perforated side panels must be detached.

They’re held in place with decently strong magnetic connectors to prevent popping the panels off when using the handle cut-outs and moving the unit around.

Removing and reattaching the panels is pretty quick and effortless for cleaning and filter replacement.

HEPA Filter Technology

The PureFlow air purifier uses a three-stage filter system, which consists of a prefilter, a HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter. This allows it to remove up to 99.97% of particles from the air up to 0.3 microns small.

The rated clean air delivery rate (CADR) is up to 500 m³/h. It can purifies 60㎡/645ft² rooms every 20 minutes.

Vocolinc App Settings

Adding the purifier to the VOCOlinc app was pretty simple as long as you’re connected to a 2.4 Ghz WiFi band. Once signed up and logged into the app, you can turn the unit on or off, set a timer, see the current air quality, adjusting fan speeds, brightness settings and linking to Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit (not tested). I was able to use Google Home with the purifier, but I do not own any Apple products to test HomeKit integration.

Since I don’t have technical tools to test the air quality before or after, I’ll rely on the unit’s built-in air quality sensor. This unit claims to remove up to 99.7% of particles from the air and as small as 0.3 microns.

When I turned the unit on, it showed my PM 2.5 reading at around 005 ug/㎡. I burned a long stick of incense, which burned for around 10 minutes. I kept all the windows and doors closed in my living room. After the incense finished burning, the room was slightly smoky. I turned on the unit, and the PM 2.5 reading was around 060 ug/㎡. So I let the unit run on Auto for a couple of hours until the PM 2.5 reading dropped back to 005 ug/㎡. If I forced the purifier to run at the max fan setting, it would have purified the air much faster, but I wanted to run it on the auto setting to see how it performs.

The unit ranges from 30 dB to 50 dB, which isn’t very loud for daily use if needed. A night mode can be activated as well where the unit will lower the fan speed and turn off the display.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re looking for a smart air purifier, the VOCOlinc PureFlow Smart Air Purifier is an excellent option. The large vertical size allows for larger, dual HEPA filters, which is rated to last up to 12 months based on 6-7 hours of daily use. If you don’t need to run the purifier for that many hours, you can easily set a schedule in the app to run to match your routine, or manually when it’s really needed.

Having a built-in humidity readout is also great to have so I know when I need to turn on my humidifier. I’ll be prepared with clean air for the Winter when most windows are kept shut to keep in heat. If you have seasonal allergies, are sensitive to smells, or just want clean air for your family, the VOCOlinc PureFlow Air Purifier is an excellent option with smart home integration.
