hey it’s adrian from ben crumley’s tech and today i’m reviewing the rode wireless go compact microphone system so i’ve been using this for about six to seven months but i’m just getting around to doing the review of it now so i’ve been using it you know well enough to figure out if there’s any issues and um not really actually so this retails for around 300 canadian which works out to like 230 240 us so if you’re looking for this type of system you know hopefully this review helps you it’s not like a super technical review i just want to give you an idea of the sound the features um and then you know you can decide if it’s worth it for you let’s get started okay so

in the package you get the two units of course so you have the transmitter and receiver so let’s look at the receiver first so um you do have a power button here on this side you have a usb type-c port which is great because it charges pretty quickly you also have a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack if you want to do audio monitoring there’s also a db adjustment and if you want to change the channel that they’re on so if you turn this on you can see it’s showing the db level and as i click that you can see that’s changing so once i turn on the other unit you can see now it shows the signal strength which is great you can see real time audio monitoring so you could tell if anything is clipping or not and it does show the battery life for both units which is super super handy now on the other unit um you just have the light to show you that it’s on and then synced you also have to built in um mic here if you don’t want to use the wired uh like a wireless mic sorry you also and this is the port if you were going to plug in a wired lav mic now there’s also a usb type c port here power button and of course the clip at the back and both of them at the same clip now you also get the wind muffs or windscreens so these are actually a bit finicky to put on actually i find because it’s a really like narrow narrow depth so once you put that in it it’s kind of hard and it pops out easily so i don’t find myself using that as much you also get a trs cable and two two usb type-c charging cables and then the wireless pouch together everything okay so now you’re hearing the

unedited audio from the wireless go system so i’ve clipped it like inward so it’s not gonna you know kind of like sag out like that but it is easy to sag now this is 31 grams so even though it’s a fairly lightweight unit if you’re wearing like kind of like a thin material on your shirt or sweater like this then you know if it was on the outside then it would be kind of like sagging down all the time now you are going to hear the audio change because i keep you know playing around with that so just something to keep in mind you know if you’re just clipping it you may want to get like a lanyard um secure it under the clip and just have it like hanging here that may be a better way to use it so this is rated for 70 meters which i believe is like 230 feet um don’t quote me on that but i think that’s around what it is so let’s take a listen like let’s do an audio test um sorry a range test and see if it actually meets that spec ranged us with the

rode wireless loft system so again you may hear clicking when i turn my back away because it needs a clear line of sight and i believe this is rated for 230 feet walking walking walking walking walking clear line of sight [Music] clear line of sight clear line of sight [Music] clear line of sight clear line of sight [Music] clear line of sight [Music] clear line of sight clear line of sight walking back hopefully you can hear the audio this is rated like i said 230 feet or around 70 meters so it should be picking it up fine okay so from that um range test it actually performed quite well i walked at about i think like 60 meters and when i turned my back i did notice that it wasn’t picking up any signal around the 60 meter mark but then as soon as i turned around to establish that clear line of sight then it picked the audio right back up so i actually walk like pretty much to 70 meters that it’s rated for and every time i turn my body around and i clear line of sight with the receiver and transmitter it did work it’s only when i turned my back that um the audio would cut out completely which is actually fine on some other systems you know you’ll hear like clicking or like the signal drop so i actually prefer that it stays kind of like dead quiet and then as soon as you turn around it grabs um that signal back and you get the audio so i would say it scored very well in that area okay
My Thoughts
guys so let me know in the comments what you guys thought about the sound test the range and things like that i think it’s a great um great unit for the price even though it’s a bit higher than some other units um the reliability is there as soon as you take it off sorry out of the box it pairs well you have that helpful led screen um so you could see battery life for both units you can see the signal strength you can get um real-time audio monitoring that may not be as helpful you know if it’s mounted to the top of your camera because you’re not going to really see that real-time audio monitoring anyway but all in all like it’s a good system um pairs easily right out of the box another great thing is that it’s 128-bit encryption so if you’re worried about you know your audio data you can be confident that you know it’s going to be pretty well protected i don’t think a lot of other wireless systems have that if they do it it’s not something that they really mention so you know if you found this video helpful um please leave a like please subscribe i’m always doing more videos like this in my next video i’m going to be reviewing this system versus the lens go lwm318c so stay tuned for that you
