GVM 80W Light Package Contents
The package comes with the LED light unit, Bowens mount light reflector, power cable and color gel sheets. The color gel sheets are red, green, blue and magenta.
GVM 80W Light Build Quality
The built quality of the LED lighting unit is decent. The front portion that houses the LED light, the massive heat sink to dissipate heat, and the Bowens mount accessories’ attachment lip are in a metal housing. The rest of the unit is all plastic, so don’t drop it.
The unit has ventilation holes around areas of the unit for airflow. The back of the unit has a fixed position carry handle that cannot be removed or adjusted. The side of the unit has a lever to clamp the light unit to a light stand, and a larger rotating knob to adjust the angle of the light’s rotation between a 0 to 180 degree range.
An adjustment knob is located at the back of the unit to adjust the brightness from 10% to 100%. The port for the power plug is also located at the back of the unit.
There is also a button at the top of the unit to release and secure any attached Bowens mount accessories.
Lastly there is a tightening knob to secure a diffusion umbrella.
The power cable is approximately 14 feet long or 4.3 meters long, so it is adequate for most uses.
GVM 80W Light Dimensions & Weight
The light is roughly 9 inches wide by 9 inches high. Once the Bowens mount reflector light cone is attached, the unit becomes around 12 inches wide.
The unit is fairly lightweight, coming in at 2.2 lbs or 1 kg, so most light stands can easily accommodate it. If you plan on attaching a large softbox, then pair the unit with a sturdy light stand.
GMV 80 W Light Setup & Light Result
Setup is super easy, simply attach the light to a light stand and tighten the side knob to lock it into place. Then insert the power cable, and you’re good to go.
If you want to use the supplied color gel sheets, those are easy to use as well. The package comes with a couple of clips that can be used to clip the color gel sheets to the reflector light cone’s lip.
Summing Up
I hope the video light test gives you an idea of how powerful this light is. If you do not attach a softbox or umbrella diffuser to it, the light will be very harsh if you use it at full power or place it too close to your subject.
This light is mostly meant for indoor use due to the number of ventilation holes. As well, it can only be powered by a power cable. There is no option to power it with a battery pack.
GVM rates this LED bulb for 100,000 hours of expected life. That is equivalent to 4,11 days or 11 years! Treat this light well, and it should last you for a decade.
Keep in mind that it is color locked to 5600 K, but that is a standard color temperature that most people want anyway. The 97+ CRI is also great to have for color accuracy.
I can highly recommend this light for the price and the brightness out that it offers.
