Intro
today I’m taking a look at edifier’s wh 950 NB Wireless ldac active noise cancelling headphones so these have the ldac audio codec for highres audio it also has active noise cancellation it has 40 mm drivers and up to an impressive 55 hours of playtime one of the most beautiful looking pair of headphones that I’ve seen in quite a while but let’s take a closer look at this sound I mean that is the most important thing here and see if this could be your next pair of headphones and a big thank you to edifier for sending these out for review in the box
Package Contents
we have the edifier w950 NB manual warranty card USB type A to type c cable 3.5 mm audio cable which are goldplated an adapter and of course this really handy hard shell carrying case with the edifier logo on there and you can see it’s a nice zippered one with a carrying strap here and if we open it up we have these dividers whenever we place the headphones fold it flat and then there is a velcro pocket here where we can include all the accessories design-wise
Design
these are the most premium looking and beautiful looking headphones I’ve seen in quite a while and there’s a lot of you know different Design Elements going on that lend to that overall you know premium look so I have the ivory version but it also comes in a Black Version as well the top of the headphones have a metallic band and I noticed it’s a little bit prone to picking up you know oils from my fingers so I just have to wipe it down every once in a while which is pretty easy to do now to adjust it we’re just going to slide down and you can hear those satisfying clicks so we have you know incremental adjustment here and for the most part it stays in place anytime I adjust it on both sides of the headphones we have the edifier logo and it’s pretty much flush but you can see that it does play really nicely with the light when it hits it at the right angle the ear cups are adjustable so you can see they can rotate to fold fat and there’s a little bit of angulation there to accommodate all head sizes and of course we have that nice you know matching headband color along with these side holders as as well on the left ear cup we have one of the external microphones surrounded by a nice metallic ring which really adds to the look we also have that 3.5 mm headphone jack along with another microphone on the right ear cup we have another external microphone and this is where we’ll find all of the controls so we have a volume up button the power button and a volume down button and you can see these are raised up so you can easily run your finger along and know which one you’re on there’s also an M button here and a quick press of this switches from active noise can Ling to ambient mode to normal mode and a double tap switches between game mode music mode and theater mode the USB type-c port is also located on the right earbud for charging there’s also an LED light which can be used for status like pairing or connection the ear cup pads are easily the most comfortable and softest I’ve ever experienced on any type of headphones so they’re this type of soft protein memory foam leather material that feels so good and comfortable and when you’re finished listening to your music these fold perfectly flat for easy storage and trans Transportation they also don’t feel too heavy whenever they’re worn coming in at around 295 G if you own the Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra in this type of champagne type of color um just take a look at that these pair so nicely together specs include 40 mm Dynamic

Pairing & Multi Point
just going to press and hold the power button until I see the flashing LED status light just like so and I can see that it’s already popped up on my phone I’m going to hit connect and everything is perfectly connected super easy I’ve enabled the Dual device Connection in the edifier app and I’ve disconnected the headphones from my first phone now what I’m going to do is just appear it with my second phone so I’m going to press on hold until I see the flashing LED light just like so and I’m going to connect it to my second phone and it’s now connected from here I could go ahead and connect the headphones on my first phone and you can see it’s simultaneously connected to both phones at the same time the headphones are connected to both phones at the same time I’m going to play the audio from the first phone I get started edifier did send thisw sample to me but you’re going to be getting my un and if I wanted to listen to audio on the second phone I’ll pause it on the first one design wise these things uh they just look amazing to me I think these are best now if I go ahead and play the audio on a second phone well it’s not going to carry through on here until I pause it on the first phone instruction manual let’s take a look at so you can see that’s a benefit of having it connected to two devices you know you could have simultaneous audio streams but you can only hear one at a time if you pause it on the other device for us and it’s going to come in handy if you have it paired to your phone for phone calls and also paired to your laptop or computer I’m now in The
App Settings
edifier Connect app I can see the remaining battery life on here and I want to point out that the highres audio is actually not active on here so I won’t be getting the best listening experience now to remedy that on this phone which is the Samsung s23 Ultra I’m going to go into the settings and I’m going to turn on the option for ldac and once that takes effect I’ll switch back to the edifier app and I can see that I now have ldac playback so I’m going to have the best possible listening experience from here I can also enable High noise cancellation I can set it to medium noise cancellation wind reduction Ambient sound or noise cancellation off and if I swipe over I can see I have different equalizers so classic Dynamic and customize I really like Dynamic but you can go into customize and go ahead and modify it as you see fit and I can also switch for music mode game mode or E theor mode in the full app settings we can actually toggle the controls so you could see I have single press set to cycle between High noise cancellation Ambient sound and noise cancellation off but you could go ahead and you know add in medium and wind reduction if you want it now at Double press you can go ahead and say hey I only need it to go between game mode and theater mode or music mode and theater mode instead of game mode and pressing and holding activates the voice assistant under ldac you could set the sampling rate or disable it completely under dual device connection it’s important to note that if this option is enabled ldac will automat atically be unavailable so if you do like to use multipoint or dual device connection just keep that in mind a really cool feature is the ability to adjust the prompt volume so you can see it’s on the Mac so I’m going to test that noise cancellation off so you can probably hear that noise cancellation off notice and if I crank it all the way to the bottom absolutely nothing at all I think every earphone or earbud should have this option if you enable safe mode the maximum volume output is going to be limited to 85 DB we can also power off the headphones and set a shutdown timer from never up to 3 hours and of course we can go into the Bluetooth settings and repair it or disconnected if you like you can also have the edifier app pop up these type of quick controls and if I expand it you can see I have a full range or access to all the settings
Controls
controls are very simple so you can volume up or volume down with a single press the power button doubles as a pause and play button and then the mode button switches between you know different types of noise cancellation ambient mode normal mode wind reduction a double click switches between game mode theater mode or music mode and a long press opens up the voice assistant
Audio Performance
whenever you’re listening to music or any type of audio we have three modes so there is a music mode a gaming mode which lowers the leeny to 85 milliseconds and then we have a theater mode but for the most part I’ve only used the music mode the other really impressive thing that I noticed with these is just how good the base response was so you know I come from listening to a lot of earbuds where it’s directly in the a canal the Bas is you know really deep thumping I mean it’s right there and these actually did such a fantastic job of kind of directing that base you know again because it’s a close type of setup you know I found the base to be pretty deep and resonant when listening on her while this sounded great out of the box I also downloaded edifier’s app and I switched it from the classic equalizer to the dynamic equalizer and it made such a world of difference you know it really boosted The Equalizer as well I found that the clarity of the audio you know was really more vibrant and louder when I had it set to the high noise cancellation on it’s just a really enjoyable listening experience and once you have these on you’re kind of like in your own world is just music just surrounding you encompassing you it’s really a great listening experience the
ANC
noise cancellation is also pretty good on here and as soon as you crank the volume to around the say the 70% or higher range you know a lot of ambient sounds just disappear and it’s only if you have like really really loud noise that you’re actually going to hear something come through and of course if you’re listening to it even higher than you know say 70% it’s really going to have to be very loud to bother you of course if you want to be aware of your surroundings you can also use the ambient mode which worked pretty well
Sound Leaking?
this is what the seal looks like on the headphones as it conforms and Contours to the mannequin head so you can see the soft cushions are doing a pretty good job at sealing pretty much everywhere around the mannequin head from you know the top the bottom and the sides so I have music playing on the phone right now and from my distance of about say 133 to 14 in I can’t hear any sound I’m going to crank it to the max and I can now hear a bit of sound leakage again from 14 in away I’m so you know even if you have this crank to the max unless in you’re a super quiet environment like a library you know I don’t think you’re going to have much issue with people hearing what you’re listening to even at higher levels especially if you’re in a type of crowded place like a restaurant or a coffee shop there’s also four
Mic Test
microphones on a to help reduce background noise and to help suppress wind noise but here’s a demo of what it sounds like with recorded audio if you’ll be using the headphones to take calls or to make recordings this is what the audio sounds like using the built-in microphone and of course if you plan on
Gaming Mode
gaming with these you could set it to the game mode where you have as low as 80 milliseconds of latency which works perfect for casual gaming I also found
Comfort
these to be super comfortable for listening to music at hours at a time and this is with me wearing glasses and you know these going over them and again you know they’ve just done a stellar job with these cushions they’re just the softest cushions I’ve ever felt battery
Battery Life
life on here is rated for 55 hours without ANC or about 34 hours withc a quick 10-minute fast charge will give you about 7 hours of listening time and a full 1 and 1/2 hours will fully top the headphones up if your battery dies completely you can also use a 3.5 mm headphone jack if your phone or device still has one of those the LED indicator light switches to red when the headphones are charging and when they’re fully charg it cuts off if you have low battery this will flash twice every 5 minutes bees are easily the nicest
Recommended?
