Intro
hey it’s adrian today i finally got my order in of the standing case with the s pen for the z4 so i’m just going to set it up and let you know my thoughts
Package Contents
in the package we have the rear cover with the kickstand applied front cover s pen with holder and some additional pen tips all right so here is the phone with
Design
the case completely applied so you can see it’s kind of similar but it’s not an exact match obviously the metal has a certain type of metallic shine or sheen tip that you know matte plastic can’t replicate but you can see that’s the color of the hinge here and then that’s the matte case let me show it on this side so you can see it a little bit easier so obviously you know it’s not an exact match but it is close enough and then in terms of ports you can see that everything is completely unobstructed except for the sim card tray which is not something you’re going to need all the time anyway maybe a little minor wobble if i top here but again that’s to be expected since this side is not balanced it’s a little bit hard because of the kickstand if i take a look at the camera lens so you can see the height of the case it’s sufficiently high enough so that if i place this flap on the table you know you’re not going to have the camera lens being scrapped so that’s great looking at the gap when the screens are closed you can see it’s much less pronounced now and this is the sound you can expect when you open and close there’s also the samsung logo at the top left there and it’s slightly embossed when i run my finger along this map material is good because it does resist fingerprints quite a lot you can see if i touch the lens on the camera there i can already see from this angle that there’s a fingerprint but as i’m going through the case i see a lot of fingerprints there you know i’m not seeing anything really and if i just use my fingernail kind of trying to angle it in the light and i can’t see any type of scuffs or anything like that so the material that they chose is really nice in terms of
DEAL BREAKER!
overall fit um i’m not exactly impressed to be honest guys so this back cover here this fits really well it’s quite secure and if i apply pressure you know say say you close your phone this way you don’t always palm it out like say you you put your finger down here and that’s where you you know you apply pressure to close it this back one is solid this is not going anywhere um you know this is tightly there now this front one this is a problem take a look at this so if i go to close it look at that that just completely slipped off the front there and it’s a little bit more difficult to slip off the top but at the bottom for sure like that just flat it just flies right off and um i know i’ve applied it right um definitely i applied the back one no problem and you can see all around if i apply even pressure you know to make sure it’s properly sat in there situated right everything is done okay now if i just put a little bit of pressure look at that flex and it’s gone now obviously you know this may not be a problem for you depending on how you open and close it but there there it goes again um but if i’m spending money on a case and it’s supposed to be like you know a genuine case from the manufacturer i’m not expecting to have these type of problems so yeah if you’re going to be opening it up only like this you’re never going to deviate and move your fingers somewhere else or you know when your fingers are here while you’re opening and closing it you know you’re not gonna apply pressure uh yeah this is the case for you um now i did call the samsung store because i thought okay maybe i have a defective you know copy maybe there’s some quality assurance issues with mine and they told me that you know they’ve had a handful of people complain that the front one is is a little bit loose so some people have just been uh basically running their phone like this so back protection they always just put it down on the back and they’re not putting their phone down on the front that’s not an acceptable solution for me i would like a case where i could put the phone down front or back whatever i like and this is not doing that now i did buy another case a clear case from a company called rinka and they’re a pretty good company that’s what i would use on my s22 ultra and this was what i had on until this came and i had zero problems with this and right away when i compare these you know they look pretty similar uh you have that same type of black black um type of sticky material just to have it help adhere but one thing i noticed right away is this top part here if i angle it you can see it curves down so there’s a pronounced lip that clips and hugs this corner however on the official samsung case that lip is not really there like it’s so slight that that’s why i’m able to just you know push it out of the way with my finger but let me demo what i’m talking about so if i put on the ring cutter case so now i have the rinka case on you know what i might as well just put the back one on for good measure okay so here it is with the rinka case on you can see it still looks nice right you can still see the frame but demoing this now i was showing that i was sometimes putting my finger down here to close it i can do that without issue if i push at the back here yeah this will slip but the whole thing is not flying off and normally this this isn’t a problem because of that black applique here this usually stays down and it hasn’t been an issue i’m i’m purposely trying to push to shift this out of place and it’s taking much more effort than with the front cover from the samsung case so you can see right now it’s very very solid very secure and i can open and close it from this bottom here this bottom here and it’s not really going anywhere so i was planning on returning this since i had the official case with the pen but you know what i think i’m just gonna definitely return the samsung case and most likely stick with the wrinkle case because this is a much better option and it is uh you know about half the price of the samsung case maybe a little bit under and if you guys are interested i’m going to link that in the description below because i can’t recommend the samsung case as it is right now hopefully they make a design improvement to that lip because uh it’s not worth it
Kickstand
the kickstand has a little cutout here so you just put your finger in there and it just goes right into place now i don’t see a way to get access to this one so not sure if that’s a spare or what but it seems pretty locked in there but if you’re just using this on the cover screen you know just hitting it gentle nudges or something if someone hits your table seems like it’ll be fine if i open it up to the main display um that seems fine you can see as you hit it hard you know it there’s a tendency for the foot or to try to close in so definitely you don’t want to hit that too hard it’s going to slide so that’s that way so horizontally and then vertically vertically there’s a little bit of wobble not a little bit the wobble is pretty pronounced if you have it vertically like this and that’s probably due to the curvature here so it’s not sitting exactly flat so the stand is best used in this orientation it’s the most stable now
S Pen
there’s also an option to slide this out and slide in the s-pen if you think you’re going to be using the s-pen more often so that clicks into place pretty securely and in terms of hand feel uh you definitely feel that this is more pronounced when you’re holding it in the back it’s not uncomfortable though with the s pen attachment this is obviously not gonna sit flat but you can see it looks pretty nice and flush in there but that’s the type of angle you’re going to have you know once you have the s-pen there so obviously yes it’s not going to sit flat in terms of wobble not really much while it feels pretty stable and planted and you know i’m not a fan of this obviously but one thing it does help you is you can just put your fingers under really easily since that side’s elevated and just grab your phone taking the s-pen out so i guess you just press down and slide it out and let’s see if it goes so it looks like it doesn’t matter in terms of rotation it seems like it can go anyway really all right so using the s pen you can see when i open this up and i put this flat you know that tendency to rock back and forth is going to be there obviously because this is only on one side but let me go into the pen app sorry to ask so if i go ahead and write something so you can hear you know it it’s it’s wobbling a bit or it’s rocking as i make my way over here so that’s something you have to be mindful of i would say if you’re not pressing too hard you know you might be able to get away with it but i do i definitely do press a little hard and i can feel that rocking now either you’re gonna have to slide this out and you can see when you have it unfolded you can’t slide it out that’s gonna block it so now you gotta close this slide this piece out open that back up and have it flat or you just have to you know take your aspen out slide it slide this out and then have it flat before you go into any app the other option is you know you can have this open sorry you can have this attached and just hold it in your palms and then correct with it all right that will work too using the s pen to navigate around so you can see it’s quite fluid and responsive you know it seems like the same type of experience i’ve had using the s22 ultra one disappointing thing that i haven’t been able to figure out and i’m not sure if it’s available is that i can’t use the button on the s pen to trigger a can see nothing’s happening you can see that if i use the s pen on the s22 ultra i could go ahead and click that and you can see the photo right there i’ll go over here take that and you can see the preview as well i could hold this down kind of like for a burst and you can see the account shutter count going up there so um not sure why i can’t do the same thing with the z fold for aspen maybe i’m missing something in the settings but um i didn’t see anything let me know if you guys know why that is now i do see an option in the s pen options again nothing for cameras but it does a quick create note so press and hold the s pen button and tap the screen twice with your aspen to create a new note so i’ll turn this off and you can see if i press and hold the button and tap i can go ahead and write something without unlocking the phone obviously this is not going to work on the cover screen yeah so it’s only compatible with the inside screen all right for those of you
Wireless Charging
who use a wireless charger throughout the day like i do this is a challenge when you have the s pen on so if i just put it onto the charger there you can see it does say that it’s charging about 12 minutes till i get a full charge now if i try to set this perfectly flush so i offset it here uh it’s not charging at all so that’s not going to work so it basically has to sit uh kind of angled or crooked and i think that’s going to affect the charging efficiency obviously it’s not making proper contact if i put it like this it does show that it’s charging flip it the other way does say that it’s charging as well now just make sure whatever wireless charger you’re using obviously the phone juts out quite a bit so you’ll want to make sure this bottom lip is you know deep enough to to hold it securely in place with the kickstand attached you can see that that’s working well it’s slow strongest basically about the same amount of time so i don’t think it being kind of an off angle like that was affecting anything you’d think it would but it’s reporting the same amount of
Recommended
time to charge so can i recommend this case and i definitely cannot recommend it unless you know you’re okay with just taking this top part off right and just running it like that and you know i wouldn’t want that i’d like the frame protected all around or you know if you if you’re going to only open your phone a certain way and you’re going to be very mindful every time you’re opening it and closing it that you’re not applying any pressure up here like you see it’s already out of place then yeah sure go for it i mean it’s not a bad value you get it with the s pen but this is not worth it for me all right guys well i hope this video was helpful even though it was supposed to be a review about the official samsung case i ended up going back to what i thought was just gonna be you know kind of like a fill-in type of case until i got the official one and it looks like i’m gonna be keeping this because it’s just a much better fitment than the official case now like i said i didn’t see any other people reporting this issue online so let me know if i’m alone in this or really if any of you have had this same type of issue but like i said i can’t recommend it right now hopefully they look at a redesign of this case and then it’s going to be worth it and as always if you guys found this video helpful just consider liking and subscribing i’ll see you in the next one soon bye
