hey guys it’s Adrian and if you like the idea of having a smart home but maybe your home is a little bit older and you don’t want to go through all the effort that it takes to get your home up to that status then I have something really cool to show you this is the switchbot curtain 3 system let’s take a closer look and a big thanks to switchbot for sending us out for a review so switchbot has sent two of the curtain 3s and I have the rod model because I have rods in my home but if you have rails in your home just go ahead and order the rails they’ve also sent these solar panels so that these could just be topped up the entire year instead of having to charge manually The switchbot Hub and the remote in the package we have the switchbot curtain 3 main body we also have the hooks that attach to the right and left side a USB type-c cable we also have a bead fixer for different types of curtain Styles along with clips for the same reason as well magnetic positioning strips a reset tool and an attachment if we have you know step type of curtain rods The switchbot Hub 2 comes with the switchbot Hub 2 unit we also have a power cable and power brick along with user manual and 3M sticky tape the switchbot remote box comes with the switchbot unit additional 3M sticky tape a manual and some stickers now if we take a look at the actual unit it’s very small and compact very lightweight as well and it comes in this little bracket or holder once you remove the 3M sticky tape you can just stick this to a wall or wherever you like but if you’re not a fan of that you can actually screw it in as well let’s take a closer look at the remote control unit so you can see very compact once out of the holder and we do have very tactile buttons for on or off at the bottom the switchbot curtain 3 unit is a nice looking unit it’s an all-white plastic build it’s going to fit in pretty much any type of household now we do have a button on here to just turn it on and put it into pairing mode and we do have an LED indicator light USB type-c port and then looking at the rear we have the logo and we use that for orienting the actual body now I’ve already attached the rollers on here and you can see these have you know really smooth travel both on the top there and then on the rear of them and then this little hook area now there are Clips here retention clips and I can just pop these out very easily and they only fit in one way so you’ll have to line up this tab right in here and then just pop it until you hear it click there is also a soft rubber roller that’s going to make contact with the bottom of the curtain rod these two hook units are springloaded so you can see if I put a bit of pressure it actually pulls out and then once I Let Go it retracts back in just make sure you’re not exerting too much pressure because there’s a chance you can actually pull the curtain rod down this is what the solar panel looks like in and this is optional for the switchbot gon 3 but you can see we have a fairly long extension arm that terminates with a USB type-c port and this goes into the body so the switchbot gon 3 just to keep it topped up and I can see there’s a button on the side there that says press once I do that I can go ahead and lift this arm up and then angulate it so the way this is going to work is you’re just going to put the solar panel part outwards you know towards your window so it can capture sunlight The switchb Hub to is a nice and compact Palm siiz unit very lightweight as well if I take a look at at the bottom this is where we have a rubber strip to keep it kind of planted but there is a back cover here that I can actually lift up and that gives me access to the USB type c Port I’m going to take the supply power cable and make sure you do use this power cable not any other and once I plug it in you can see very handily I could see the humidity and temperature in the room and then there’s also an option to turn the display on or off and that display looks really nice by the way now how it can figure out the temperature and humidity is with this sensor that’s built into the cable so you’ll definitely want to use this cable and there is also 3M tape pre-applied so you can stick this summer specs include a 3350 mamp hour battery good for up to 8 months of life if you don’t connect the optional solar panel with the optional solar panel you can expect year round power now this can also support curtains that are heavy up to 15 kg or 33 lb you can set up to five schedules but if you require more you can use the optional switchbot Hub too I’m going to add the two switchbot curtain to the switchbot app so I’ve downloaded I’m going to click on ADD device now I’m going to go ahead and tap on curtain it’s already found one of them and it says press and hold a button until the white light flashes which I see it flashing right here so I’m going to go ahead and click next okay so it’s found the devices and if you only have one you’re going to pick the option to open from one side but since I have two of these I’m going to pick open from the middle so I’ll go ahead and do that hit confirm and it says press and hold the button of the second device for two seconds and I can see that’s already flashing I’ve already done that so let’s go ahead add the second one and you can see it’s automatically grouping them as a pair which is super handy to install I attached the two curtain hooks to the curtain rod and then I yanked one side down snapped in the switchbot body and I made sure that the switchbot logo is facing in towards the room it cannot face towards the window and then I did the same for the other side and once the body was completely attached to both hooks I then just kind of rotated it so it was you know parallel to the floor after installing the next step is the c calibrate everything so there is a smart calibration and a manual calibration if you go with the smart calibration you do have to use the attachments at switchb is applied like the magnetic strips to paste on the underside of the curtain rod to kind of indicate to the switchbot curtain 3 exactly where to stop I chose to not install any of those and I just did it manually and it worked like a dream opening and closing the curtains is super easy they give you a bunch of options so one is of course to use it like voice control through you know Google assistant or Alexa there’s also the Andy supplied remote again this is optional but I really do enjoy using this and you could program these buttons if you want it you know open or close and you could switch to order of that and you can actually use this to pause the opening and closing as well which is really handy now I also did use it on the app and on the app you have a little bit more options so you can also enable the quiet drift option and when you enable quiet drift it takes about a minute and 30 seconds to fully open and fully close and it is super silent you know me being in the same room I can could barely tell that it was actually opening and closing so this would make it ideal for a bedroom situation where you want to be gently woken in the morning you know just by gradual sunlight coming into the room but here’s a demo of The Quiet drift feature compared to the regular opening and you can hear the night and day difference and of course if you’re a bit more oldfashioned you just like the yanker curtain open or close there is an option in the app if you go into Advance there’s an option called touch to go and once you yank the curtain like a couple of inches it just carries it the rest of way with the motor and of course because I have two of the switchb Cur 3s it does it simultaneously and it SNS that opening and closing super handy there’s also an option in the app to allow you to operate the curtains independently so you could just do you know the right side or the left side if you like you can also set this system to open and close on a schedule so I’ve set up two schedules one for like an opening schedule in the morning and one at night one interesting thing that I noticed is that because my curtain rod is not very long and my curtain is actually wide enough for my window I can actually get away with using one switchb curtain 3 unit and as long as I place it between the first and second grommet that was enough for it to carry the curtain all the way open or all the way closed so if you have windows that are not very wide you can probably buy two of these and you know use them in two different windows in your rooms you know maybe one upstairs in a bedroom and one in a living room now I played around with this for quite a bit when I first got it installed and I was surprised to see that the battery level was still around the 90% range now because switchbot did send the optional solar panel Chargers I installed it to both of the units and I just had it hanging in position so that sun can catch it and you know according to the app it’s charging beautifully so basically as long as you have you know decent sunlight you know enough sunlight to cast a shadow you should be good pretty much throughout the year they also sent the switchbot Hub 2 which has such a beautiful and minimalistic design pretty much everything matches on the system but because there’s a sensor built into the power cable it actually can tell you the humidity and temperature and you can actually set up scenes on their like automations so that if it hits a certain light temperature or a certain temperature you could actually open and close the curtains you can also get Visual and audio alerts from The switchbot Hub too so for example if the temperature goes under or above a certain range that you define in the app or say the same for humidity you can go ahead and set it I’m someone who is a little bit lazy you know once I get on the chair I’m ready to watch a movie or play video games but I have a window right next to my TV screen I noticed oh it’s a bit bright in here there’s a little bit of glare or there’s people just walking back and forth all the time and I want a bit of privacy you know I could just do a voice command I can just open the app or I could just use the handh remote which is my preferred way to open and close it I never need to get up so if you’re interested in upgrading your curtains effortlessly like I did I’m going to leave a coupon code down below for a discount so you can pick one up for yourself and as always if you found this video helpful please consider
