Intro

If you’re looking for some of the best protection out there right now for your iPhone 17 Pro Max, you have to check out the Q3 Air Pro case from Torras. It provides up to an impressive 16 ft of drop protection thanks to the Air 2 Protec dual layer impact shield and thick front and rear protective bezels. There’s also a built-in 360° rotating kickstand for stable horizontal or vertical viewing that stows away flush and super strong N56SH magnets so you can use MagSafe accessories and MagSafe charging with a secure hold. You can even use Qi wireless charging and NFC use is unaffected as well. However, there’s one small compromise to be aware of. So, let’s take a closer look at the Q3 Air Pro case and also the Q3 Rugged case so you can decide which is best for you.
And a big thanks to Torras for sending these out for review. In the box

Quick Note

started, so these are the Q3 series of cases. So, on the top is the Q3 Air Pro case, then the Q3 Air case, and the Q3 Rugged case. So, we’ll be taking a look at the Q3 Air Pro case which is their flagship case and the Q3 Rugged case. And I’ll leave a link down below to my full dedicated review of the Q3 Air case if you’re interested so you can see which of these cases is best for you.
Q3 Air Pro Design

The Q3 Air Pro case comes in at around 63 g. Now, I have the white version but it also comes in a black and brown version as well. And in terms of the build material, so we have an aluminum build. We also have polycarbonate, a synthetic rubber, and thermoplastic polyurethane. The claim to fame for the Q3 Air Pro case is the level of protection that this provides. So, it actually provides up to 16 ft of drop protection and that’s thanks to this dual impact shield or dual airbag layer which they call their Air 2 Protec. And that dual layer impact shield extends all the way at the top and curves around to the sides and it’s also present at the bottom right and left corners as well.
And just for a quick comparison, so you could see just how much thicker and how much more the Q3 Air Pro case airbags do extend versus on the Q3 Air case and on the Q3 rug case. The back is opaque and as I run my fingers along, it’s a matte type of finish which helps with grip. We also have a metal ring or kickstand which they call the O stand and this is using N56 SH magnets, so it should have a pretty strong hold which I’ll demo later. The O stand is nice and flush in there. You can see if I do a side view, it doesn’t stick out. When you need access to it, you could just lift it up and it is nicely frictioned as well. Now, what you can do from here is you can actually rotate this a full 360° in perpetuity and you see or hear that it actually has hard stop increments.
Now, you can also go ahead and angulate it for horizontal viewing or for vertical viewing as well. And then when you’re done, it just snaps right back into place nice and flush. The bottom left shows Air 2 elevated protection and if we take a look at the rear camera module or lens cutout, you could see it’s a large cutout and if I do a side view, this does extend or raise up enough so that it’ll protect your lens when you place this camera side down. On the right side, we have a grippy type of textured area and in there we have a metallic button cover which actually looks really nice. There’s also the camera control button area that has a cover as well and I’ll demo how responsive that is.
And then on the other side, we have a larger type of textured grip area and more metallic button covers. On the inside, we have a soft microfiber lining to ensure that the back of your phone doesn’t get scratched and you could see that where we actually have the button covers, there’s a protective layer on the other side of that to ensure that no part of your phone gets scratched. And the bottom has cutouts for the speaker grill and USB type C charging port. There’s a front bezel or front lip that extends all the way throughout the case and you could see it actually curves or wraps around slightly to ensure your phone is nicely retained once it’s installed.
Q3 Air Pro Post-Install

Installing the iPhone 17 Pro Max is really simple, so I’m just going to start in the top area, push the phone down, slide it up, snap it in at the bottom, and just like that, we’re done. And this is what the iPhone 17 Pro Max looks like in the Taurus O Stand Q3 Air Pro case. So, it actually looks really sharp. Taking a look at the bottom, you could see we have nice and precise cutouts all the way throughout for the speaker grill and the USB Type-C port. And all of the buttons remain completely tactile, no issues there at all. Let’s test out the camera control button. So, I’ll go ahead, double click it. You can see the screen come on, and then I can just go ahead and slide my fingers to cycle through the various focal lengths. Zero issues at all, very responsive.
You could see the protective rear lens bezel or lip extends high enough so that the lens sit nice and recess in there, so that if you’re to place your phone lens side down, they won’t get scratched. The front screen lip or bezel also extends high enough, and it actually extends higher at the four corners, so that if you’re to place your phone screen side down, there’s no chance of your screen getting damaged. And here is a top-down view, so you could see the dual layer impact shields protruding slightly from
Q3 Air Pro Hand Feel

the case. And more interestingly is on the bottom of the case, it’s not just flush all the way across, it actually tapers in a little, which is a pretty unique type of look. In terms of hand feel, so this feels really good in the hand. It doesn’t feel slippery in any way. That’s because we have the textured side grips and this matte type of finish. Now, I can tell that the case is on because it does add a little bit of bulk, but it doesn’t feel very heavy at 63 g, and it’s still very easy for me, you know, kind of manipulate the phone, rotate it top and bottom, left and right. Really no issues at all. In terms
Q3 Air Pro Kickstand

of the O Stand or kickstand stability, so it is nicely frictioned. It doesn’t feel like it’s just going to collapse. Now, if I use it for vertical viewing like this and I bang on the table, you could see the phone is moving, but it’s actually not going to collapse, so it’s nice and planted. And I can also do this for horizontal viewing. And again, I could just push down on the phone to change the level of angulation, and it still rock solid stable.
Q3 Air Pro Magsafe

MagSafe charging works flawlessly. Everything snaps into place very securely thanks to those N56 SH magnets and that goes the same for using MagSafe accessories. You have a very strong and secure hold. You can also use Qi wireless chargers with no issues at all.
Q3 Air Pro Drop Protection

I dropped my phone both screen side down and camera side down and there was absolutely zero damage at all because this is rated for up to an impressive 16 ft of drop protection. That’s thanks to the Air 2 Protect dual layer impact shield along with the thick front and rear bezels. When it comes to wobble,
Wobble?

there’s no significant wobble at all which is always nice to see. Using NFC

or tap to pay is also completely unaffected. Now let’s talk about the
Deal Breaker?

potential deal breaker I mentioned at the start. So while the N56 SH magnets are very strong for MagSafe charging and MagSafe accessories, if you try to mount the phone to metallic surfaces directly, it may be a bit hit and miss. But on my fridge, it did stay nice and secure. So just keep that in mind. Now let’s look
Q3 Rugg Case

at the Q3 rugged case which still gives you a lot of protection, but it also adds insane amounts of grip to the case and it’s one of the most grippiest cases I’ve ever held. So this comes in at around 57 g and in terms of design, it’s basically the same all the way throughout. So we have the same type of O standard metal ring at the back. Again, 360 rotation. We have the raised rear bezel, cutouts at the bottom for the USB type-C port speaker grill, same microfiber lining and we also have protective button covers. Instead of the dual layer impact shield or dual layer airbags, we have this rubberized type of finish which is still going to help and to absorb impacts.
Installing the case is also simple and it actually looks really sharp on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the claim to fame here is actually the insane amount of grip that you get all the way throughout. So the entire right and left side of the case has this anti-slip micro texture going on. Instead of this just being flushed, it’s kind of like this wave pattern and as I run my finger along this, it feels rough because it feels like there’s like thousands of little protrusions. Now, it doesn’t feel uncomfortable, but it definitely feels very grippy in the hand. To date, this is the grippiest case I’ve ever used. And also on the back, we have a matte type of finish. So, just from basically every angle, this feels extremely secure in the hand. The fitment is also perfect on here.
So, we have those protective rear bezels for the rear camera module. Also on the front screen area, we have thick raised bezels or lip. So, if you place your phone screen side down, it’s not going to get damaged. And we have precise cutouts, as well. There’s no wobble when tapping at the top of the screen, but there is some as you get to the bottom. All of the buttons remain tactile and responsive, including the camera control button. And there’s no issues using NFC or tap to pay. Using MagSafe charging and MagSafe accessories also works flawlessly on the Q3 rugged case. And you can also use Qi wireless charging, as well. I also dropped the Q3 rugged case both screen side and camera side down, and there was absolutely zero damage at all.
