Package Contents & Build Quality
In the box, everything is nicely packaged in a convenient zippered two-layered pouch that is nicely padded to protect everything inside. In the pouch, you get the Receiver unit and 2 Transmitter units, of course. Two lavalier mics with a lip on the clip allow for a secure attachment to the transmitter units. A USB Type C charging cable, an XLR cable, two wind muffs, a TRS and TRRS cable are also included.
The TX and RX are made of plastic, so you definitely do not want to drop these, or they will likely crack. That said, the units feel pretty sturdy, with a slight play on the external mic unit housing. The swivel antenna arms have a smooth travel when angled downwards, but be careful not to swing them down too hard because it feels like going past the hard stop limit will likely snap it.
The back of the units have a belt clip, which offers good clamping pressure.
Receiver Unit Features
The receiver unit has two LED lights towards the top that are front-facing to show when channels A & B are paired. The very top of the unit has the IR receiver, a 3.5 mm jack to connect to a camera or phone, and a 3.5 mm jack for audio monitoring. Once the antenna arm is angled down, the Type C charging port and a reset port are available. The front of the unit has four buttons to access the menu, make changes and power the unit on and off.
A handy LCD screen shows the signal strength, channel numbers, live audio levels, battery levels of both the receiver and transmitters.
The menu settings allow changing from Stereo to Mono mode, changing channels, manual pairing, volume adjustment, and flipping the screen upside down if the receiver is mounted upside down.
Transmitter Unit Features
The transmitter units are identical, with an IR receiver, Type C charging port and a reset port on the right side of the unit. The left side of the unit contains the antenna arm that does not obstruct any ports. The antenna arm on the transmitters can be angled down to a maximum of 180 degrees.
The top of the unit has a 3.5 mm input jack to allow for a lavalier mic. The supplied lavalier mic has a handy lip on the clip near the 3.5 mm jack that slots into a hole next to the 3.5 mm port on the transmitter unit. This is great for ensuring a snug fit. If you use a third-party lav mic, you will likely not be able to ensure that snug fit.
The front of the unit has two buttons to power the units on and off and muting the unit. The power button allows you to enable the Low Cut Filter with a short press. There are also two LED indicator lights, the top light shows power on / low cut filter enabled, and the bottom shows the audio status.
Sound Quality
The sound quality is good straight out of the box without any audio editing afterwards. There is good sound clarity with no signal interruptions. The sound is balanced with a good level of bass and treble. I also placed one of the transmitters in another room and closed the door, and the signal strength and audio quality were still great.

A Very Important Consideration
Unlike other systems, if you choose to use this unit with only one transmitter powered on for solo use, the audio will only be recorded to one channel. This means that you will have to duplicate the audio track in post to have full right and left audio channels. Summing Up
The Comica BoomX-U U2 wireless transmitter and receiver kit is an excellent option if you’re looking for interview-style videos. It offers excellent audio and clarity, along with a strong signal for worry-free audio recording. This is a complete kit that will have you up and running right out of the box. It’s a great unit for the price if you can look past the plastic body build.
