Intro

it’s adrian and today i’m taking a look at these lg tone free earbuds so these are bluetooth earbuds and they have active noise cancellation so generally these go for about 130 us but right now they’re on sale for about 67 us so i’m going to take a look at these and let you know how they do
Package Contents

in the package we have the lg tone free earbuds and these are model fp5 which you can see there we also got a usb type-c charging cable some ear gels and a manual taking a look at the design of
Design

the lg tone-free earbuds so you can see i’ve got a 9v battery and it’s about the height of a 9-volt battery so this thing is really small much smaller than i thought it would be but it makes it much more manageable but let’s take a look at the design so the front of the case has a red led indicator light and then also a groove here you could put your fingernail in there to lift the lid up and the back has the usb type-c charging port taking a look at the inside so you can see once you open it up you have both earbuds and these are magnetic so they just snap into place which is pretty common and looking at the earbuds so let’s look at the left one and you can see here there’s a microphone up there there’s also a microphone at the bottom there and there’s a touch control right there so the side here is where you’re going to have your touch controls and it has a bit of a glossy feel the rest of it has kind of like a matte finish on it and looking at the ear gel so there is the metal mesh type of material here and the air gel these are supposed to be medical grade silicone so they feel pretty soft and you know pretty malleable so these should be pretty good and of course you’re going to want to pick the ones that best fit your ears because the more you can kind of get that fit the more the active noise cancellation is going to work better so the inside of this stem here has the charging contacts and if i look at a side profile of these or just you know top down this stem is pretty short it’s not as long as some of the other wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation so this is going to look pretty natural and it’s not going to protrude too much or get you know snagged or hit on anything the entire package is pretty lightweight so the earbuds plus the charging case comes in at 46 grams the two earbuds are five grams each for a total of 10 grams and then the remaining 36 grams are for the charging case in terms of these
Specs

specs so it’s rated for about 22 hours of battery life if you’re not going to be using active noise cancellation and that’s of course including using the charging case it’s ipx4 rating so it’s sweat and splash resistant but you definitely don’t want to get it submerged in water these are medical grade silicone air gels and you get about an hour of listing time on a five minute charge if you need it now it does have google in siri voice commands the codecs are spc and aac and it is using bluetooth 5.2 now the charging case has a battery capacity of 390 mah and each earbud has a battery capacity of 55 mah in terms of pairing them for the first
Bluetooth Pairing

time so the manual says to open the charging case and press and hold on these until they blink blue which i see it’s doing right now so what i’ll do is i’ll go ahead and hit scan and i see it right here so the tone fp5 so i’ll click that and i’ll hit pair and that’s it so to connect these to a second phone so i’m just going to turn the bluetooth on my other phone here open this up and i’m going to touch until i see the blue led flashing there it goes and i’m just going to wait to see if it pops up here there there we go so lg tone fp5 go ahead and click those and hit pair and there you go it’s paired there and another weird thing is i think this is called the quick connect so this did just jump up let me go ahead and click connect there and it says i could download the app directly i’m going to do that and that’s the lg tone free app so that’s pretty handy actually i didn’t actually need to go to the play store manually
App Settings

now that i’ve downloaded the lg tone free app and paired the earbuds i can see that there’s an update software update so i’m gonna go ahead and click that so i’m gonna install that all right so i’ve downloaded the lg tone free app and i went into the software update and there was an update so i did perform that one thing to note about the update is you have to keep bluetooth on your phone and take the earbuds out of the charging case while you do it takes about a good five minutes to do it so just make sure you’re near your wi-fi so in the app though you can see i can actually remap some of these options here and we also have equalizer options right now it’s at the base boost i’ll leave it there for right now you can you also have the option to do custom equalizers if you like now you also have options to control the strength of the active noise cancellation you can set it to high or low you also have the option to auto pause and play whenever you take an earbud out so it’ll just pause when you take one out or start playing when you put it back in you also have touch padlock this is pretty handy so just in case you know you’re kind of used to touching the earbud or readjusting it you don’t want your music to stop you can enable that now in terms of touchpad settings so this is where you could remap things so you see touch once it’s set to play stop if i click that i can actually go to volume up volume down previous next um voice command so like i prefer to have volume up and volume down because i’m rarely skipping tracks so that’s pretty neat that you can remap the touch settings if you like you also have an option here called tone free lab and what you can do is you can enable game mode so if you’re going to be using these while you’re gaming it’ll reduce the sound latency there’s also a whispering mode so how this is supposed to work is once you enable that you can take the right earbud put it near your mouth speak kind of softly or with a whisper and the other part is going to hurt you fine and this is going to work even in crowded areas there’s also an option for voice settings so you can actually go in and have it you know announce text messages or notifications from whichever app you choose lastly you have an option for find my earbuds so if you go ahead and click that if you do lose these you can press this and hopefully you can hear that so obviously it’s not going to be the loudest because it’s just whatever is coming through here okay so i’m just
Sound Quality

going to test the different equalizers i don’t know how i was gonna pick up on the microphone but after going through all these the one i prefer is the 3d sound stage but let me see if i can show that on the microphone [Music] so [Music] all right so most importantly in terms of sound performance sound quality it’s excellent you know try it on the 3d sound stage if you’re trying these for the first time i really like that mode out of all the other modes close second would be the treble boost now the sound is crisp the bass is really adequate i found myself listening to it at around 80 to 100 percent and you know it still sounded amazing there was no distortion no crackling like you would find on some cheaper type of headphones the other thing i was looking for was any type of lip sync issues or audio release when people were talking and i was listening and i didn’t see any of those and keep in mind that’s without me even turning on game mode which is meant to reduce sound latency so i don’t think you’re going to have a problem if you’ve had those problems before in the past so audio-wise a huge pass for me so i did
Call Quality

also test these out on calls and the other parties reported that i sounded clear there were no issues with the audio in terms of charging so if i just
Battery Life

turn on my power bank really quickly here you can see there’s a red led indicator light and that signifies that i have 20 percent or less battery life remaining in the charging case and the wireless earbuds they are being charged simultaneously one quick thing to note about the charging case is that you can’t plug in your phone to the other end of the cable and charge your phone it’s only for charging the earbuds so from a zero charge on your earbuds it takes about an hour to get them back to 100 and for the charging case it takes about two hours to get this fully back up now if you’re in a pinch lg does say that a five minutes charge time will give you about an hour of listening time in terms of overall battery life you’re gonna get about eight hours of battery life on the earbuds without active noise cancellation turned on if you are going to use active noise cancellation all the time then you can expect about five hours of battery life on the earbuds and if you’re going to be carrying around the charging case which it’s pretty small i think it’s actually manageable you’ll get about up to 13 hours with active noise cancellation on and 22 hours with it off so one potential deal
Deal Breakers

breaker for some of you is going to be the lack of multi-point or multi-connection so you can see both phones can be paired with the headphones but i can only have one connection i can’t have two connections running simultaneously so right now it’s paired to my samsung phone i’m going to go ahead tap on this other phone and you can see it automatically disconnected from the samsung and it connected on this other phone so you know there are some people who like to connect the headphones to two devices so for example you can have it connected to your laptop and you could listen to music and then if you have a call coming in on your cell phone you can answer that call and when you end it it can go back to your laptop listening to music and unfortunately that doesn’t exist another potential deal breaker could be the lack of wireless charging on the earbuds and the charging case but again you can see when i put that right up to a nine volt battery it’s really small so this thing actually is the definition of pocketable so can i recommend the lg tone free
Recommended?

earbuds and these are the model fp5 there’s other models out there at the regular price of 130 us i wouldn’t recommend these i think there’s cheaper options that are just as good but for 67 us on sale i think these are a good value at that price because the charging case is actually small it’s quite portable i can actually fit that in my pocket and carry it around battery life is pretty good you know up to eight hours without anc five hours with anc on and i don’t generally listen for that long so i’m not gonna really need it but if you’re in a pinch you know five minute charging time gives you an hour of listening time pretty decent but most importantly is the sound the sound is full the bass is really great and lg credits that to having this kind of larger diaphragm which you can see i am really a fan of this short stem type of design it doesn’t protrude much out of the ears and it’s quite comfortable and it’s really secure it’s a solid fit even when i was like moving my head side to side i’m really impressed with it and the app also just opens up more features you can set the equalizer to what you like you can create your own equalizer you can change the control so you can remap it to what you like and that’s something i did right away i set it to just volume up and down for quick taps you can also do the auto pause and play when you take them out take them put them back in all in all great value you know you can get something cheaper for sure but i don’t think you’re going to get all that type of customizability so when you consider all of those things together i think it’s a great value for 67 dollars and if you end up picking these up let me know in the comments below what you think of the sound quality as well if you’re not a fan of earbuds and you prefer to have something over the ear also with bluetooth and better battery life check out my review here for that did i miss anything in this review or do you have any questions just leave them in the comments down below and i’ll do my best to get back to you and always if you found this video helpful please consider liking and subscribing and i’ll see you in the next one bye
