hey it’s adrian from them crumbly’s tech and today i’m reviewing the moment ma1 um on camera mic so this is a compact mic and it’s a cardioid um uni-directional mic so it’s best for picking up sound when you’re talking to the camera directly like i am so if you’re looking for a mic like that let’s just get into it i’ll let you know what it comes with and we’ll see how good the sound is

okay so before we get started i’m always doing like microphone reviews camera gear and accessories so if you’re interested in stuff like that please consider liking and subscribing so let’s get into what comes in the package um so you have the actual microphone unit itself and you can see it’s quite compact um it is also it has a sizable weight to it um it comes in at 54 grams and you can see if i hit it on the table here it’s pretty loud makes a loud noise so this is not plastic at all there’s no plastic pieces you see if i try to add some flex here um it’s not going anywhere so it’s solidly built um so first here’s the front of it and you also have the back here where you have the 3.5 millimeter audio jack so one thing with this is um it’s powered by your phone or your camera so once you plug it in here and then plug it into the audio port on your phone or camera it’s powered that way so there’s no i’m recharging or adding batteries or anything like that one thing i did notice though is there’s no lights of any type on here so it’s not really an issue when the power supplied by your camera or phone it’s just automatically going to be part on when you turn on your device now it also comes with a plastic shock mount and of course you can attach it to the hot shoe on your camera so this is the only plastic part of this unit you also have a wind muff um and you can see it’s a pretty sizable one it’s like the same size in terms of height as the actual unit so um pretty much most of this is going to be like engulfed are covered in the um wind muff you also get two cables so you have your qrs and trs cables so you can use these for one for the phone and once for your camera so now i’m just gonna um actually let me just set it up right now so i’m just gonna pop this into place here so that’s in there and i’m gonna put on the windmill so you can see that’s what the unit looks like so pretty uh pretty sizable and you can see it’s shaking so the shock absorber is doing its job but you know you could probably swap this for a smaller one or run it without if you don’t really need it if you’re going to be indoors like not outside in the wind i’m going to do the test with it on just in case so the next audio you hear is going to be with the moment ma1 see you soon okay i’m back so the audio

you’re hearing now is going to be coming from the moment ma1 and the wind muff is on so there’s no adjustments on the mic unit itself so there’s no like gain adjustments or anything like that so the audio is being recorded from my um sony a7 iii and the mic input level is 12 and this is what it sounds like so when you hear this audio i’m not gonna modify it in any way edit it this is straight out what it sounds like now you can use this with a phone and one thing i want to mention that i notice a lot when i see um microphones on like amazon or wherever is a lot of people mentioned it they plug in the microphone and they plug it into their phone um and they don’t notice any sound difference or like no sound or something like that so i just wanted to mention really quickly like if you look at my phone um old school but it still has the 3.5 millimeter audio jack when i go into the camera app on the phone and i record a video often times the camera app does not know that there’s a external mic attached so it’s still going to be recording audio from the phone’s built-in mic so what you want to do is if you’re on android you want to download an app called open camera and in the open camera app you can specify the audio source and you could pick that you have an external mic and when you do that then you’re going to be guaranteed that the audio is coming from the external mic and it’s not going to be using your cameras an inbuilt mic so if you buy this mic for a phone like a you know like a vlog setup or something like that and you’re not getting the audio you’re not noticing a difference that’s most likely the reason why so download the open camera app for android and that’ll solve it um iphone users i’m sorry i don’t i don’t have an iphone so i’m not sure um you know what would be an alternative app for something like that but here’s what the audio sounds like um let me know what you think about it in the comments i’m gonna stop the video review it and hear how it sounds compared to the mic i was using before which is a single mic alright so i’m
My Thoughts
back um i just listened to the audio that i recorded and it sounds great to me like for a compact mic like that no like adjustments like game settings or anything like that the audio straight out sounds really clear clean to me so this is a great um great option if you want to have like a super light setup you don’t want to have to like worry about charging it if you turn it on or not and i’ve made that mistake many times i’m recording a video everything is plugged in but i forget to hit the um power switch but with this you know there’s no worry about that you just plug it into your phone um again with that open camera app that i mentioned or plug it straight into your camera and it’s automatically powered and it’s getting the audio so super great unit um if you just want like um a really light setup so again if you found this video helpful um please consider liking and subscribing and let me know in the comments what you think about this i know there’s like really popular brands like you know um like road deity saramonic those type of mics and i do have like um one of the rode wireless mics but i always like experimenting with other brands too because a lot of the times you find really good quality mics and they’re quite reasonable in price and i think this is one of those mics and as well the build quality is the best out of any mic i’ve seen now i do have like another moment product which is a tripod but it’s the first time i tried a moment mic and i’m impressed with the build quality and the audio quality so if you’re looking for something compact like this you don’t want to spend a ton of money this is a great option you
