hey it’s Adrian and today I have a really special pair of headphones these are edif Fire stack spt S5 planar magnetic headphones which have high res and highres wireless audio certifications if you’re not too familiar with planner magnetic headphones some of the benefits are that they offer low Distortion sound Balan and fast frequency response and they’re more durable than traditional headphone drivers the edif Fire stack Spirit S5 offers both ldac and lhdc highres audio codex Snapdragon qualcomm’s qcc 5181 chipset with apx adap aptive codec we also have low power consumption giving you up to 80 hours of battery life thanks to the 1500 mAh battery there’s call noise cancellation a gaming mode Connection by USBC Bluetooth and 3.5 Ox cable and multi-point connectivity so the edifier stack Spirit S5 sound pretty much perfect right and the audio experience has been like that for me these are the best sounding pair of headphones that I’ve tried the clarity and range on here is just unmatched however there’s a couple of things that may or may not be deal breakers for you so let’s take a closer look at how to perform and a big thanks to edifier for sending these out for review so this is
Package Contents
the box that the edifier S5 headphones come in and you can see it’s a very large box once you open it up there is a protective foam layer there and it’s also surrounded by foam on all sides and at the very bottom of the box to ensure that your S5 comes to you without any damage so a lot of attention to detail has gone into the packaging so you can see the headphone here it’s nicely embossed and smooth to the touch and then and then on the side we have the stack SP riding also embossed plays really nicely with the light but let’s take a closer look at what comes in the Box in the box we have the edifier S5s which are nice and compactly folded up so that they could fit in this hard cover travel case which is Zipper there’s also a manual along with cooling mesh air pads and these can be swapped out if you prefer and you would use this pick to detach them from the headphone body we also have cases for those along with the 3.5 mm Ox cable a USB type-c to type a connector and an adapter the
Design
edifier stackert S5 has a really nice design and I’m glad they went with this type of slate gray instead of just all black because it looks kind of nice and stealth now we have the stack Spirit writing here on this side and then at the top we have the metal headband with the edifier logo and this is adjustable of course that writing also carries over on the other side now taking a look at the ear cups on the outside here is a cowhide material and then we also have the button controls here so volume up power or power on this will also play pause and then volume down we also have the multifunction button and you can map this for what it does when you single press or double press there’s also the USB type-c port used to charge the headphones and to use them in wi mode and we have an LED indicator light there as well now on the inside this is not the earpads that it came with these are the cool mesh ear pads which are actually really nice um the sound sounds better with these applied and it feels good against my skin as well but when you get them out of the box it is going to come with the genuine lamb skin leather um which is also lighter than this so This adds about an additional 32 G to the headphones when you put on the cool mesh now on the other side we have the 3.5 mm Ox input and that’s about it for the design and you can see that it does fold up nice and compactly for Easy Storage or carrying and we also have a pretty plush uh headband right here also notice that anytime I’m adjusting the headphones or folding them up or kind of rotating the cups there’s no type of creaking or any noises like that so it’s not going to affect your listening experience and that’s thanks to this pivoting hinge if you’re going to take your S5 on the go with you this is what the travel case looks like so this is about the size of my fist and it’s about that height now we have this type of fabric finish and you can hear that’s a hard cover type of case so it keeps everything nicely protected in there it is also a zippered case so I’ll just open that up and you can see the S5 is in there now if I lift the headband up you can see there’s a little bit of a ledge here a raised ledge where the headband just sits nicely again so everything is nicely seated in there and you also have a little hanging shop as

well here’s a quick look at some of the specs feel free to pause or jump ahead to the next section the S5s are capable
Pairing & MultiPoint
of Google fastp so I’m just going to test that out I’m going to power these on for the first time so I’ll just press the power button here and I can see see that they are now on and I’m just going to wait to see if there we go so that’s the Google fastp automatically detecting the S5s I’m just going to go ahead and connect those right now and we do have multi-point connectivity so you can have this paired to you know two phones at a time a phone and a tablet phone and a laptop I have the edifier S5 connected to both my s24 ultra and zold 5 so if I go into the settings here you can see that ldac is turned off on both of them multipoint is turned on both so I’ll just hop into YouTube right here so right now you could probably hear the music playing here and as soon as I get a phone call it’s automatically going to cut the audio over to my other [Music] phone so you can see it’s automatically paused playback and now I can go ahead and accept this call with the audio the S5s can be connected over Bluetooth and
Connectivity
it is running Bluetooth 5.4 now you also have the option to use the 3.5 mm Ox input and there is a 6.35 MM adapter if you want to plug it into an amp or a mixer and you can also use USB type-c cable connected to your laptop or desktop to use it that way just note that all Bluetooth functionality will be disabled whenever you’re using it in wire mode the controls are done
Controls
perfectly on here so a single tap of the multi-function button is going to cycle through the three different equalizers so normal Dynamic and monitor however just beeps to let you know that you’re cycling through the equalizers it actually doesn’t tell you which equalizer you’re on so that’s something I hope to see change in a firmare update and if you double tap on the multifunction button that’s going to activate game mode on or off so it’s really simple to use in terms of the volume and power control so a single tap on the power button is going to play or pause music a double tap is just going to open up the voice assistant and then volume up and down behaves exactly as you’d expect and a long press on volume up or a long press on volume down will adjust the tracks so I find the edifier
Comfort
S5s to be super comfortable to wear for hours at a time now I normally wear glasses for most of the day and even with these pressing against the arms of my glasses there’s really no problems with discomfort or anything like that now when you first take these out of the box they’re going to come with the lamb skin Leather Ear cups and I’m really not a fan of leather because they do make my skin kind of hot and sweaty with prolonged use especially because I’m in a fairly hot room with my you know desktop monitor Etc um and with these cool mesh ear pads which I definitely recommend that you switch out the first thing you do see how you like it um they stay relatively cool for the most part I don’t know what they did with these but I wish every headphone came with these instead of you know leather ones or pleather ones now when you take these out of the box with the leather ones it’s going to come in at 349 G and when you do put on these cool mesh ones it bumps it up to about 382 G so about an additional 32 G so it does make it you know noticeably more heavy than if you were to use the leather ear cup so something to keep in mind but I’ve been using it with the cool uh these cool mesh ear cups no problems at all the
Sound
sound coming out of the EDR S5s is something I don’t think anyone is going to be disappointed with and that’s thanks in part to the two Micron thin film layer that they have in here along with their second gen equal Mass wiring technology that they have a patent for and the benefit of all that Tech in these planer magnetic headphones is the ultra low Distortion and you can really hear it across all frequencies even at max volume and that’s something where traditional headphone drivers have a difficult time depending on how it’s tuned even though planner magnetic headphones aren’t famous for base delivery if you love a lot of bass like I do you’re not going to be disappointed because with the right songs like Geto from DJ Snake you get a good taste of just how hard crisp that base is just how much it thumbs there’s good resonance not a super prolonged base Decay it’s just an enjoyable listening experience very clean delivery instrumentals and vocals also come through very clean and crisp and if you listen to a lot of vocal prominent songs like for example once a Time in the West or The Power of Love by Stephie vus you really hear how pristinely her voice comes through without any type of siblin and that’s something that I find is very uncontrolled with other types of headphones or earphones especially when they’re tuned that way or while you cycle through the different types of equalizers but you don’t have that problem here you’ll be treated to a rich and expansive Sound Stage anytime you put these on provided that you’re listening to high bit rate audio and I high High recommend enabling ldac if your phone supports it that’s how I was listening to this ldac turned on on my phone High bit rate audio and I also ured I was using the dynamic equalizer if you pick up the edifier S5s I highly recommend setting it to the dynamic equalizer listening to some 8D base boosted music and you’ll hear just how otherworldly these sound and I’ll leave links down below if you want to do that
Dealbreaker?
so while these are pretty much a perfect pair of headphones so far let’s talk about that potential deal breaker I mentioned at the start of the video and that is that these have no active noise cancellation or ANC and if you ask me do I actually miss that these don’t havec not really After experiencing the sound quality coming out of these it’s not something that I miss at all however if you’re someone who really cares about an let’s talk about sound isolation while the edifier STX SP S5s are a closed back headphone I can still hear a good amount of ambient noise whenever I put them on and this is with no music playing yet so one of the things I like to do whenever I put on a of headphones or earbuds is to just kind of Snap My Fingers it’s in close proximity to my ear and I get an idea or reference of you know just how well these can passively block or limit noise now whenever I do listen to music it’s fairly on the high end so around 90% for the most part sometimes a little bit higher now at 90% the lack ofc doesn’t really affect me much the volume is so loud I listen with the dynamic equalizer most of the times I can’t hear much that’s going on in the outside world so unless you’re in an extremely noisy type of environment I don’t think it’s going to be an issue not having a ANC on these if you listen to your music at a fairly high level now if you’re at the 50 60% you probably will hear some kind of ambient noise depending on the environment let’s take a look at sound
Sound Leakage?
leakage so the edifier S5 is nicely situated on this mannequin it’s pretty much sealed in every aspect and there’s no hair on here now I’m going to play this at about half the volume and I have the mannequin head let’s say about 12 to 14 in away so I’m going to play the music I really don’t hear anything now I’m just going to increase that about 60 to 70% I hear a little bit of music not too much I’m going to increase it a bit more say about 80 to 90% I could definitely hear a little bit more and then finally 100% so I can definitely hear it at 100% now the important thing to note is I’m in a dead quiet room there’s pretty much no ambient noise at all so if you’re in a coffee shop or you know on the bus or something like that even at max volume it should be fairly controlled I’m now
Mic Test
recording audio using the microphones on the edifier S5 and right now I’m in a very quiet room with little ambient noise I’m now going to play some simulated background noise on my other phone at around 80% volume which is fairly loud so let me start it now this is what microphone audio sounds like if you’re going to be in a loud environment the volume is at around 80% and it’s a simulated coffee shop
Gaming
[Applause] environment I didn’t experience any type of noticeable latency while using these for mobile gaming I did turn on the game mode which offers up to 89 milliseconds of latency however if you want minimal latency you’re going to want to use these in wired mode instead the battery
Battery
life has been fantastic on these so far it’s rated for up to 80 hours thanks to that 1500 Mah hour battery now that’s really going to depend on if you’re using the highres audio codex or not and the volume level that you listen to these at now whenever the battery level does go low a quick 10-minute charge is going to give you an impressive 11 hours of play time and I can see I have 100%
App Settings
battery life on here now you can also pick the ear pad setup so I switched out the Leather Ear pads for the cooling mesh earpads and I’ve just set it in the app because that’s going to affect the Sound Performance a little bit we can also go ahead and change the equalizer mode so either original Dynamic monitor or customize where you can set up your own type of EQ now I’ve been really enjoying Dynamic I’m going to leave it there and of course you can make these changes on the headphones as well using the multi-function button and we can also turn game mode on on or off but let’s take a look at the full settings so we can access the user manual under controls for the multifunction button we can have it cycle through the different equalizers so you can pick up to three equalizers for it to cycle through you can also set it to activate game mode and this is again with a single press so it can launch game mode voice assistant or the earpad switch and then a double press can activate you know game mode Voice Assistant earpad switch or sound mode so I like this type of setup as it is right now so I’m just going to leave that there and then under HD codec so I have it set to ldac with the highest sampling rate and then lhdc at the highest bit rate if your device supports it but if we go into dual device connection this is where you’re going to have to make a trade-off because if you go ahead and activate dual device connection it mentions that you are going to lose the ldac and lhdc functionality so it’s up to you if you want to have you know multi-point to connect it simultaneously to two devices or you know kind of prioritize higher quality sound now let’s go into the prompt volume and you could set just kind of the call out that you hear on the microphone or sorry the headphones every time you make a settings change and then we can go into power off and just set you know a kind of automatic power off after 10 minutes 20 minutes 30 minutes Etc or we can go ahead and click power off to just manually power everything off you can also choose to disconnect the headphones or repair them for the first time and then just reset everything to the factory settings so if
Recommended?
you want a topnotch listening experience pretty much across all genres of music the edifier stack SP S5s are a great place to start you get a ton of functionality there’s ldac and lhdc support you have multi-point connectivity up to 80 hours of battery life with that huge 1500 Milah hour battery you can also use these by Bluetooth and you still get highr sound or wired mode with a USB type-c cable or 3.5 mm Ox cable really a ton of functionality and they’re actually very comfortable to wear especially with the included cool mesh ear pads I highly recommend them coming in at 499 us this is probably not meant for most casual listeners this is more for someone who’s used a bunch of headphones and earbuds before but you always felt them lacking in one area or another and with these you’re going to be treated to a very rich and expansive listening experience if you’re interested in picking up the edifier stack SP S5 I’m going to leave some links down below for you to check it out or to learn more and if these are a little out of your budget I’ll also leave a review to the EDR w950 NB those are also awesome sounding and as always if you found this video helpful please consider liking and subscribing and I’ll see you in the next one soon
