Nice. >> If you’re looking to automate routine tasks or you’re interested in what real world robotics can actually do, this is the Deep Robotics Light 3 quadriped robot. It’s stable, fast, can carry payloads, recover its bounce, and you can control it both from your phone or a remote to actually see what it sees. It’s also built on an open development platform, which means it has serious versatility. But specs are one thing, so let’s take a closer look at how well it performs in the real world. And a big thanks to Warpify for sending this out for review. In the box, you get the

case. So, what is the light 3 quadriped robot? Well, this is one offering from Deep Robotics, which focuses on a ton of various robotics offerings. I’ll be showcasing the basic model. However, they do have higher-end models which are targeted to developers, researchers, and labs. If you need more advanced functionality, the Light 3 basic model

can be positioned in a flat or a sitting position, and you can attach a handle to the top for easy carrying. The side houses the batteries, which has LED indicator lights to show the current battery life, and the batteries can actually be swapped, so you have minimal downtime. There’s a wide-angle lens on the front of the Lite 3, and under that is an ultrasonic radar, and there’s another ultrasonic radar on the rear of the body as well. The bottom of the legs have a non-slip sole, which can also be replaced if needed. There’s also ports on top for modular attachments if you want to expand functionality. And this is what the underside of the Lite 3 looks like. Here’s a quick look at the

specs. Feel free to pause and review or jump ahead to the next section. So, the

Controls

default control method is going to be to use your Android phone with an app on it. However, if you want more tactile controls, you can buy an optional remote. You’ll have a large screen on there with physical joysticks for just more tactile control. And whenever you’re controlling the Live 3, the reaction time is pretty much

instantaneous. So on the main screen you have a couple of quick actions. You can change the speed, so slow, medium, fast. You can set it to crawl. You can also do stand, sit, move, pose, flat rug, and you also have some quick actions here. So this isn’t the full list. You can also update it and get additional actions as well. You can also print screen, do uh voice commands, and it actually has speakers where you can actually play uh audio from it. And at the same time, you could see the battery level so you know anytime you need to recharge it along with the connection

strength. in terms of movement and locomotion. So, there’s three speeds. You could set it to slow, medium, or fast. Now, this can walk. It can kind of trot in place. It can move side to side. It can move diagonally as well. It can also handle slopes up to 40°. Now, it can also walk up and down stairs. However, this does require a little bit of programming to get it to do it fluidly. In addition to the standard movements, it can also jump, it can lunge, it can flip, it can dance. And in these dance demos, you could see that the Lite 3 has a ton of freedom of movement. So, there’s 12 degrees of freedom since you have three actuated joints per leg times the four legs for a total of 12 movable joints. There’s also hip abduction or abduction.

There’s hip forward, backward swing, knee extension, and flexion. And that wide range of movement freedom allows it to trot, walk, turn, adapt to different terrains like stairs, slopes, avoid obstacles, and posture control such as crouching, twisting, and jumping. Here’s a demo of some of those. Sorry. There’s also obstacle avoidance, which you could turn on or off, and that applies both to the front of the Lite 3 and to the rear of the Light 3. There’s also a cool visual follow mode. Pretty handy if you just want to load up the Light 3 with some gear, groceries, and just have it take a load off your back.

Balance & Recover

The Light 3 is also very planted and stable in terms of its balance. So, anytime it was just kind of stationary, standing still if I just kicked against it or kind of pushed against it, it wouldn’t flip over right away. It actually took me a decent amount of force to get it to flip onto its back. Now, once it did that, you could use the phone or the remote controller to get it to write itself back up into a standing position. And even on the softer ground or, you know, kind of grass, it was easily able to do that. However, whenever it’s actually moving around, walking, trotting, if I kicked against it, or even kicked harder than I did when it was stationary, I could not get it to fall over on its back. The Light 3

Basic has a payload capacity of 5 kg or about 11 lb. So, we loaded it up with a bunch of water bottles, and I had no problems moving around with that on it.

the Lite 3. In terms of battery life, the Lite 3 Basic is rated for up to 2 hours of use. Now, when the battery goes down, you can actually just buy spare or additional batteries and just quickly swap that so you have minimal downtime. Now, if the batteries do go to zero, about a 40 to 60 minute charge is going to get you fully charged back up. So, if

you’re looking to get into the world of quadriped robots, the Deep Robotics Light 3 is a super robust and versatile option. It’s quick and responsive to control with the app or the optional remote. It offers a ton of modularity and the ability to expand functionality thanks to the open- source platform. It’s a solid step into the world of robotics, especially if you have the technical interest and you’re interested in tinkering around. If you’re interested in getting the Lite 3, I’ll leave a link down below. And the prices start at around $28.90 US, which is actually pretty good compared to the pricing I’ve seen for other quadriped robots. However, if you use the discount code DCT15 off, you can get 15% off the price.

It’s going to be pretty interesting to see where the world of robotics is headed next, especially with everything that the Light 3 can do right now. Now, this isn’t my usual type of video content, but I’m really interested in this type of stuff. If you are too, let me know what else you’d like to see, and I’ll try to cover more of that as well. If you like this video, maybe consider checking out this video next and maybe also liking and subscribing because I cover a ton of different tech. You know, headphones, earbuds, microphones, laptops, keyboards, really something for everyone. And I really hope you’ll join me in my next video
