Hey, it’s Adrian and here’s a quick first look at Samsung’s new ZFold 7’s design compared to the ZFold 6. Right away, you could see that the ZFold 7 is noticeably thinner than the ZFold 6, finally catching up to slimmer foldables from other brands. From every angle, it’s far thinner and much more manageable and ergonomic to hold. The ZFold 7 also has a wider outer cover screen and a larger inner screen, which is a welcome change from the really slim or narrow cover screen that made texting and typing cumbersome on the ZFold 6. The hinge is also noticeably thinner or narrower when compared to the ZFold 6. I also noticed that the Fold 7 hinge has a slight bounce back when adjusting it, whereas with the ZFold 6 hinge, it’s very firm and well tensioned.
actually prefer the hinge tension on the ZFold 6 better. The ZFold 6’s hinge also seems to allow for more stable angulation at extreme angles versus the ZFold 7. The ZFold 6 was rated for 200,000 folds, but I’m unsure of the rated amount of folds for the ZFold 7. The speaker grill cutouts seem a tiny bit larger to my eyes on the ZFold 7. The camera lens layout remains largely the same, but Samsung mentioned that they wanted to bring the ultra experience to the ZFold 7, which is why you can now jump up to 200 megapixel photos instead of just 50 megapixel photos like on the ZFold 6. However, it still doesn’t pack the four lens layout on the ultra phones. The ZFold 7 is also running 1 UI 8. Now, I didn’t spend a lot of time on this, but I will in my first impressions video or full review.
I also noticed that the official Samsung cases only offer rear or back protection, which is disappointing to see. None of the official Samsung cases have an area to house or hold an SPEN. And let me know down in the comments if you’d like to see case reviews for the ZFold 7. It also makes me question if the upcoming S26 Ultra will even still have an S Pen in the body, and I really hope it does, so it can actually be deserving of the Ultra name. I was shown three colors, a black, silver, and blue version, but I’m sure the Samsung store will have more exclusive colors because none of these colors really wowed me. And the Z Flip 7 now has a much larger outer screen wrapping around the camera lens.
So, the ZFold 7 definitely feels better in the hand, but is that enough of a change to warrant the upgrade from the ZFold 6?
